Cool Event ~ Skip New Year's Eve for this? EXCESSIVE RECORDS 9th ANNIVERSARY PREMIER CELEBRATION @ Maison Club , 02/01/2009

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

159th post... ONE MORE TO GO!

Can't celebrate New Year's Eve?

Don't want to celebrate New Year's Eve?

Does this statement relates to you?

"New Year's Eve is in the bloody midweek. Got to work/go to class/exam/get married etc the day after. I can't really enjoy myself and get super drunk, party like mad munkeys and do all the wonderful things I want. Should postpone it la. Can or not"

Especially those who can't take leave on the Friday after. Arghhh. Have to turn up to work with no hangovers.

If I don't go to any NYE parties... what is waiting for me the weekend after New Year's eve? Maybe there are some good parties I can attend and postpone my NYE craziness to that party.

Cause not everyone is a PARTYHOLIC like you know who (Not me ok).

Let's see...

So far I can find only one reason to skip NYE, wait abit and party the weekend after. Cause the peeps from Excessive Records are having a bash...

WHAT
For one night only, after the NEW YEAR holiday season, Maison Club KL is pleased to present the special 9th Anniversary celebration party by Excessive Records featuring 9 top local DJs. Experience the long awaited EXCESSIVE RECORDS SOUND SYSTEM.

Excessive Records (record label, DJ/producer colective, DJ school)?
Excessive Records began in 1999, and now had become one of most respected and renowned event organisers with a reputation that creates a mind blowing and tantalising experience at any events its affiliated with.

Founders Bryan Burger and DJ Callen have built a concrete name for themselves. Not only known within Malaysia, Excessive become popular with clubbers and the events & rave industry in parts of Asia such as Singapore and Indonesia.

Their experience in the music industry has made them a target for organising events in collaboration with corporate clients such as; Kent, Salem, Juice Magazine, Klue.com.my, Volvo, Heineken, Nike, Carlsberg, Sol, and Tower Records.

WHEN & WHERE
02/01/2009 (Friday) @ Maison Club KL, 8 Jalan Yap Ah Shak 50300 Kuala Lumpur, next to Heritage Row (Tel: +603 2698 3328 )

WHO
9th anniversary so 9 times the fun with
  • Angela Faith (Capital FM DJ Quest 2nd Runner 2008)
  • Tommy Cham PACO aka Banana Republic (Juice DJ Quest 2nd Runner Up 2007/ Pioneer DJ Battle Finalist 2008)
  • GAIJIN (Juice DJ Quest 3rd Runner Up 2008/ Pioneer DJ Battle Finalist 2008)
  • ELF (Juice DJ Quest 2nd runner up 08/ Capital FM DJ Quest Runner Up 2008)

  • Bryan Burger (Excessive Records / Royale DJ Academy / UDG,K.L.)
  • C. Master (Capital FM DJ Quest Winner 2008)
  • Blackheart (Royale DJ Academy)

HOW
No cover charge before 12. E-mail excessiverecords@yahoo.com to RSVP. If you're RSVP passed, they'll give you a fun password. Can't tell you. Must email them 1st. Hehehe.

Why attend this event?
It's by those party people who specializes in trance parties. Just look at the local DJs offering for the party. Not bad...

Is it worth not partying during NYE? Maybe.

Maison is a worthy venue. Been to alot of good stuff there. Good beverage offering too.

Plus you know that NYE has already siphon off those who can't take a double or triple party whammy in a week. But those who can, can join the party peeps to celebrate the 9th anniversary of one of the prominent names in local DJing.

And if I can't make it...

HAPPY 9th ANNIVERSARY EXCESSIVE RECORDS!

More parties, more DJs, more excessive!

"IF YOUR NAMES NOT DOWN! YOU AIN'T COMIN IN!"

Blogger's note - Sory can't reveal the e-mail. Last time around, I was communicated by Lap Sap NOT to spread these parties. Private party ma. Hmmm. How huh?

Somehow I'm going...

Crazy "I will party any where, any time" me.

Must be the music. Could also be the 'motivational' beverages. Maybe both.

I missed the last 1 or 2 Lap Sap private parties (HOW COULD I, SUCKY ME). Maybe I should try to attend one non-private LAP SAP shindig in Barsonic, Zouk. But that is sooo mainstream.

Hmmm...

So I see you party peeps there?

No worries. Get back to your New Year's Eve planning.

Let me find some other parties I can recommend. Maybe those in the vicinity of the first week of January 2009.

Chiowz.

SPONSORED NEW YEAR'S EVE 2009 PARTY ANYONE? (Part 1/2)

Note:
These series of post are not meant for those who have planned for their New Year's Eve 2009 party(s).

Also not meant for those who have planned to party at their favourite club/pub/lounge cause you know what you're going to see anyways - Another suited up normal club themed night with an indoor countdown. Without the booze, I bet you won't have fun.

NEW YEAR'S SHOULD BE CELEBRATED OUTDOORS! On the streets where you can experience the fireworks, the massive people partying... the real deal.

These series of post are meant more for people like me who up until today, still undecided of where to go and most importantly, where is the FREE/SPONSORED parties that I can go to.

We all spend for 'motivational' beverages and substances anyways, so why pay cover.

In this post, we are going to go GENERAL. See what is publicly condone and government-approved massive New Year's Eve celebrations.

Then in the next post I'll go abit more detailed on my selection of could-be good SPONSORED NEW YEAR'S EVE 2009 parties.

Koh Phangan at home: A psytrance epic journey at Fierce Green Fire (Pt 2/2)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

For PART 1

Additional photos are the courtesy of Ikhwan (The Epic Tribe) and Hilma (Om Project).

As night looms, we left the day vibe. Another energy seeps into us and slowly the fire becomes the flame.

As we gather and motivate ourselves

The setting has beautified and dramatically change (these are some really great pictures)

From dusk till dawn, the night shamans come out and play...

Unfortunately, there wasn't any FULL MOON.

But when in need, man will compensate

So in the darkness of the night, the tribe danced their way... in any way. Adhering to the true spirit of psytrance. A spirit of freedom.

Let also, the FIERCENESS to communicate into our social needs to commence in a unison of mind, body and soul moved by the shamans into total psychedelica...

Just looking at these pictures makes me yearn to be at another one.

It was really dark at night, so let's see if I have something nice to show you...

Glow stringer

Party flames went on inside of us for 3 days.

3 of among my best party days in 2008.

Another journey ends. Really hoping to get another chance to do this.

It was not all about the music and attractions offered. DD and I was there for the people, the vibe, the motivations, the acceptance, the experience.

And I truly believe that The Epic Tribe and its collective and friends can get us there.

There... To wherever there is. Still undecided. Alot more steps maybe.

A special thanks to The Epic Tribe, Om Project (Singapore) and everyone else who partied with DD and I at

The Epic Tribe pres. FIERCE GREEN FIRE 2008

Finally, after alongggggg wait, the party has been posted.

What a relief. Something this massive. This fun. Should not be kept alone.

Stay tuned as we will gather COOLeriffic 2008 moments experiences by the COOLERCLUBBERS in countdown to the new year.

And some prospects of what to expect in the new year.

Get ready to party!

Koh Phangan at home: A psytrance epic journey at Fierce Green Fire (Pt 1/2)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

For the past month or so, I kept on rambling about this thing

Wanted to post it asap, stuff got in my way. Kept on piling and piling and piling posts until I'm overloaded.

So lets get this out of my head and into this blog, for permanent memorial of how great it was to be at

The Epic Tribe pres. FIERCE GREEN FIRE

According to the organizer

FIERCE is a state of mind. It has no emotional attachment to it; and exists merely as a state of extreme power and intensity.

As part of this festival's battle cry, 'FIERCE' inspires us to protect the 'Green Fire', another name for our Natural World and our lonely blue island in space: Earth.

Hence, 'Fierce Green Fire' a quest to overcome our complacency to protect our last refuge of peace, nature, and mastery over ourselves.

It was also inspired by a book on environmentalism by Aldo Leopold; 'A Fierce Green Fire'

This post is in relation to another upcoming party. The more massive and psychedelicly uplifting

JUNGLE EXPERIENCE @ Koh Phangan, Thailand, 29-30 December 2008

Party info

Party flyer

Can't imagine the massive fun their going to have in Thailand.

Cause when DD and I was at the Malaysian version, it was a party marathon spread trough 3 days.

Imagine this timeline.

Visual aid for you imagination

And after gazing at these pictures, and you're still not convinced... Some vids should do the job.

So lets start this party off with the activities and happenings during the day time. Clock starts at 7am...

The venue

The gathering of psychedelic people from all around the world to converge in one space to rejoice, share and motivate themselves.

There to share this epic journey with us were our friends from Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

Releasing the mind up wards with music, only bareness meets the ground and no self consciousness, no fear and most importantly no barriers of self expression

Some of the psychedelic shamans who brews the music in the day time

And when we tire, we rest...

In our hunger, we conjure flames for sustenance

For memories, we then capture

Some other memories in video

From the moment I wake up

Spinning psychedelicly

DD's journey

And in the night, the party really picks up pace... but for now we rest.

To be continued

Time Out KL pres. Time Out : On The Up (Dec '08) @ No Black Tie, 17/12/2008. New definition of local emo acoustics is The Snow Symphony

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

In between my modern day slavery (a.k.a my job) and my sponsored partying, club launches, massive raves and psychedelic trancing...

I always find time to squeeze in some good performance arts and indie music performances. It gives me a moment to chill and savour some intellectually stimulating things for the benefit of balancing my soul.

Thanks to organizers like the people from Time Out KL (www.timeoutkl.com) and venues like No Black Tie who gives space to up coming indie performers to show KLites what true indie heart and talent is all about.

Last week's Wednesday, took off from work, headed to La Blanc's (Asian Heritage Row) soft launch for some drinks then headed straight to this gig.

Gig pictures courtesy of David (www.royalshortness.blogspot.com)

The indie-lovin organizer

The gig

Fellow bloggers, Nigel and Hsu Jen. Thankfully taking photos was David and somewhere running around was Kelz.

Upon arrival, the band I was looking forward to was on stage. Check out why I am lured into the melodies and vocals of...

The Snow Symphony

See what I mean...

Savy Ho on Violin to lull you into the depth of their songs

The Bass Man

Nick Davis on vocals to guide you along the path of emo acoustics

For more emo accoustic goodness, check out The Snow Symphony's music at their myspace, blog or Nick's own music blog.

Next up was A Mantle The Sea.

A Mantle The Sea

According to their Myspace
Named after an enduring 19th century hymn, Petaling Jaya-based A Mantle the Sea is most comfortable pondering life, love and the world in general through its brand of eclectic and cerebral, yet accessible, music.

In 2004, the band released its debut EP, entitled "Take a Powder" and in 2006, the band released its first full length self-titled album.

This band? Hmmm... they sound good. Some songs are better than the other. But ultimately hear-worthy.

Since there is no available video at this time, musical point of reference is R.E.M with main and back up vocals sounding like Simon & Garfunkel.

R.E.M. + Simon & Garfunkel?

I like... Should check out this band at their next gig.

PS - I know this sounds funny but I like bands with average to nerdy looking vocalist and band members. They look like real music lovers. Not POP-tailored bands regurgitated from big labels.

2nd vocalist. Good vocals. Rougher than the lead. Good combo.

Maybe you can tell me how good they are after you visit their myspace and blog.

Eventhough there were 4 performers at the gig and we've gone trough two of them, unfortunately this is where the review ends.

Cause...

2nd last band was Rumi.

This band was publicise as Jazz, sounded jazzy on their myspace but sang Meet Uncle Hussain-ish songs. Shoe-gazers (I know you're better than this) and should have sung songs to cater for that NBT's audience.

Last performer, Prema Yin

Prema Yin, with all her musical accomplishments and experience, should have come for some sound check. Cause the vocals were hazy and due to the nature of her blues rock... her session felt like it was any another lounge act of lower calibre. Should have been better.

That's all for now.

This was the last TOKL's On The UP gig of the year and it has made me hopeful for the coming installations in 2009.

A new year... a new line up of Indie artist of various genres... performing together in one night of dedication towards their efforts and their beautiful music.

Hopeful that at least once a month, I can relish my IMHIS (Indie Music Hungry Syndrom).

Hahaha...

Now lets get back to the usual EDM programming with the second half of my Malaysian Jungle Experience 3 day party in the woods.

Stay tuned.

Cool Event ~ Stop working, pack up your bags and let's go to Koh Phangan, Thailand to party at FULL MOON & JUNGLE EXPERIENCE

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Where have you been lately? Which massive rave you partied at, felt really good and were proud to tell your friends about it?

Partied in Safe Singapore at Zouk Out? Siloso Beach?

Local massive raves like Massive Underground? Smartie Partie? Scream? Xlive? 2 Days of Freedom? etc...

Special by-invitation massive raves/parties like On The Move? Freedom Elite? Hennessy Artistry?

Now...

Think about this massive rave... it's every month. There are a couple variations of the party. It is mostly held at the beach. The music is fantastic. The party people is eclectic.

IT IS FAR AWAY FROM MALAYSIA. But with a sense of adventure you will be here...

FULL MOON PARTY @ KOH PHANGAN, THAILAND

The Full Moon party started in the late 80's (and grew in the early 90's) when friends arranged intimate parties in the light at the full moon. A guitar, tape recorder and a beach fire made their night.

Now there are about 10,000-20,000 people every month at this Koh Phangan beach party. It is now known as the Full Moon Party. International and Thai DJ's entertains the crowd from dusk till dawn.

The DJ's play all kinds of music; techno, trance, goa, drum n' bass, dub, reggae, "commercial hits", house etc on about 15 sound systems along Haad Rin beach.

Looks and sound cool. Wished you where there instead of constantly complaining about how BORING the local venues are. Or even how SUCKY some massive raves around this region.

A Full Moon Party would be such an experience. Unless you don't have the balls for it lah.

I'm not going anywhere near a Full Moon Party this year because they only have Xmas and New Year left. After that a whole new 2009 line up of Full Moon massive raves. Maybe I can go to one then.

But I was invited to join some rather psychedelic underground ravers and DJs collective to another more extreme and exciting adventure in Thailand...

The psychedelic DJ & ravers collective

THE PARTY... Some of the Epic Tribe DJs will be spinning at this crazy party. Big ups to Yzdar, Sanuk and Cocofonix

WHAT IS THE JUNGLE EXPERIENCE @ KOH PHANGAN, THAILAND (29-30 DEC)?

Party info

After the journey to the venue (and believe me when I say "a journey", I really meant it)

You will reach the jungle...

The venue

And from a far, you will see psychedelic flags to tell you that...

"YOU ARE HERE. WELCOME TO PSYCHEDELIC HEAVEN"

Got to love the artworks

And trough this parthway

You will experience an uplifting journey beyond the mind, guided by some hardcore psychedlic trance, partying with some good company and plenty of 'motivation'

Electro shamans working their wizardry on the deck and the tribe shaking the ground below them

And at night it gets even better...

and in the morning, the PSYCLE starts all over again...

Literal meaning of "From dusk till dawn" taken to the extremes.

Music ranges from all psytrance & goa genres and ambiance music when necessary.

Check out this vid of last year's Jungle Experience. Vid taken at around 8-9am. Can you party this early?

Hahaha...

Even though I cant make it, but I have had witnessed and partied my ass-off silly at a local version of the Jungle Experience psy-party.

It was off the roof, into the sky, go beyond the atmosphere and continued its way to cosmic galaxy.

The people, the music, the vibe, the 'motivations'... the sense of belonging

Thanks again to the people at The Epic Tribe for showing me the light.

And again I will show you this

Dhaima and I was at a local version of the jungle experience party

The 3 day adventure was aptly named, FIERCE GREEN FIRE

Now the equation and preview image makes sense right?

To be continued...

It's the season to be jolly...

tra lalalalaaa lalaa lalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa........

Hope you guys are having great XCITING XTREME XMAS parties around town tonight.

And also, I really hope you KLites enjoy the looong weekend ahead.

Go crazy, explore, do things you would never have thought of doing, drink like the fish you are, get in or out of the closet and PLSSS get on that "PARTY BOAT" to sail your merry selves away in total holiday bliss.

I, on the other hand, have to be anchored back at REALITY SHORE and chained myself to the responsibilities of work.

This transition from NGO to Insurance (wth?) is kinda though but financially rewarding.

How dreadfull.

Life is a bitch.

etc...etc...etc...

(Hmmm... take life as not hypothetical and methaphorical bitch in the sense that it sucks and refer it to something/someone. Can it be f**k around? Can you pass it to friends? Can you get STD etc? Can that bitch break your heart? Leave you broke?... Maybe)

Note to self: _ _ _ _ the next person who says "Let's party".

Fuhhh... POST ENVY-AT-OTHER-PEOPLE-PARTYING ANGER MANAGEMENT done.

Kindly bear with the lateness of posts or the close-to-none existance of sponsored party updates this month. I'm in some working hyperdrive and got sucked in the wormhole with no chance of escaping. CAPITALISM AT WORK.

I would also like to extend my apologies to my umbrella networks for the same reasons as stated above.

In the spirit of togetherness and harmony, I pledge for the new year to try to find a way to resolve this.

I WILL PARTY AGAIN!!! AND I WILL BE VICTORIOUS!!!

Muahahaha...

Got to go, enjoy your Saturday night mates...

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Just a quick post.

Going off to Kuala Selangor later. Party by the beach.

Was at Smartie Partie last night. My response to it was exactly

WTFPP!!!

(Where's The Friday Party People?)

Entrance (pay attention to the time and date)

The "Smart" tie Partie? (pay attention to the time and date)

I had a brief EMPTY PARTY SHOCKNESS. For a venue that can accommodate 5-6 thousand people easy...

There were less than 100-200.

So lets do some EVENT'S MATHEMATICS

Assume that the venue is expected to accommodate 5000 paying and non-paying party people PER NIGHT

Friday night party people = 100 - 200

How many party peeps would they require THIS SATURDAY, to attain a substantial amount of profit which can accommodate to the MASSIVE LOST the Friday before and still make some good moolah at the end of the event?

at least 6 to 7 thousand party people.

Why? Cause all the costs and losses for the friday before must be compensated. Losses meaning PROFIT which could have been made minus expenditure.

This means that if this predicted amount of people is not there tonight...

Bungkus (close shop)...

You get what I mean?

Unless the intention was to spread and widen the profit margin trough two days of events.

I highly doubt this.
Note - This is just my opinion and speculation. Not exact figures. And I rarely give bad reviews on events. Unless I had a really shitty time or EMPTY PARTY SHOCKNESS

BUT

On the up side...

The freakin party was like MY FREAKIN PRIVATE PARTY muahahaha.

Best thing was, we chatted abit with Trace Harris (founder of Smartie Partie) which I'm sure the Saturday party peeps would never have the chance to (unless VVVIP lah).

Coolerriffic PRIVATE MOMENT...

Will post about it in detail soon.

To the two Sunway boys we met at this party, " Wuzzzuuuppp... you are two cool dudes. Party would have sucked more if I had not chatted with you lot. See you soon mates"

I'm going to go off now. The post I said to be up tonight, the one about this equation...

and the one about this picture

Would be postpone to Sunday or Monday depending on how much of my brain cells survives this Saturday night.

The story of FoundationKL by Time Out KL magazine (Dec 08 issue)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

When one cool friend of theCOOLERexperience blog publishes a lengthy 3 page article on another cool friend of ours...

I feel proud. Joy overwhelmed me. A sense of pride and sensibility now runs deeper into my EDM-lovin self.

Being apart of a revolution, a new way, something off the beaten path. Screw corporate trends which has spined the music we love. The POP cataract which blinds us from seeking better point of views and ways to look at this musical-culture.

What revolution?

The Foundation is an experimental collective connected by good music and driven by a raw passion to listen and BE HEARD. This site promotes musicians by offering FREE downloads, DJ mixes, and how-to guides straight from Planet's best bedroom and semi-professional DJs and Producers.

The Foundation is at www.foundationkl.org

The article... In-depth but easy to digest, history and aspirations of the self-proclaimed "Semi Pros" plus some pointers on how to be a bedroom DJ who creates good mixes.

For the original printed article, get yourselves this month's Issue of Time Out KL (TOKL) magazine, flip to page 23, sit down, take a deep breath and read.
TOKL?
It's all about listings on KL Life. A neat set up or articles and info on people, places and related-products with plenty of future and latest happenings around town plus some information you would appreciate to know. Available at all magazine-selling locations around town and selling at RM 4.90 per copy.

TOKL's website, www.timeoutkl.com

Get back to this blog by Saturday.

I got something really mind blowing to show to you.

Especially those who can't make a connection to this equation...

Figure it out by Saturday aight.

Btw, where are you guys heading this weekend?

2 days craziness at Smartie Partie or shufflers/hard dance heaven at Massive Worldwide or the down-graded Rock The World?

Or go to some remote beach near by, book an apartment with a seaview and have your own private party like us?

Hehehe...

Have fun mates!

Chiowz.

CoolerClubber Updates - Let's end 2008 with a bang by revealing some hidden secrets

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

"CoolerClub is a concept, an idea to gather CoolerClubbers to move as one in search for fun without it's bad side effects..."

"Am I a CoolerClubber? Are you a CoolerClubber? Are we all CoolerClubers?"

"Yes we are..."

I have always seen this blog project of mine as my social group's diary, ramblings, exchange of thoughts etc.

Apart from ensuring that all CoolerClubbers are well informed on selective events and happenings around town, especially sponsored events...

We also gather support from various bigger organizations, groups and collectives to form a bigger umbrella for the CoolerClubbers (All of us including you who are reading this).

Bigger umbrella for better, faster, deeper insights on those aforementioned activities.

Same umbrella for news, direct knowledge and invitations to the events organized by the good people we support.

A big thanks to the good peeps at
  • The Foundation KL (International EDM bedroom DJ & producers collective)
  • The Epic Tribe (Malaysian psychedelic trance collective with link to Ohm Project Singapore)
  • and now... Time Out KL (Urban activities infotainment magazine)

Hopefully, as the circle, trust and bond widens... so as many more friends and umbrella for us CoolerClubbers to come.

BUT...

For today, we're not really talking about umbrellas, social groups, the blog etc...

We are going to talk about this blog's moderator. You know who lah.

Cause he was TAGGED by this cool fella

Visit his blog www.adlisyahril.blogspot.com for hot, fast news on the latest electro and related EDM happenings around town.

So let the tagging begins...

1. Do you think you're hot?
According to my BMI, I produce more heat than other people.

2. Upload your favorite picture of you

3. Why do you like that picture?
I always use this picture for my online profiles. This was taken the day I went to my first real sponsored event experience.

Within that month, Brian (ex-coolerclubber) and I came up with the name and concept of CoolerClubbers. He introduced me to the great wonderful world of events-searching on the web and I generated the creative stuff.

After that, it was all history.

4. When was the last time you ate pizza?
My mom used to make REAL pizza which taste really good. Mom's real pizza, a long time ago. Fast food pizza, last month.

5. The last song you listened to?
Sadly, about a couple of hours back... the corporate song of the company which I am working at. Kept on rotating in my head. Arghhh!!!

6. What are you doing right now?
Thinking of witty things to write now to make me look cool on my blog. Muahaha... (Oh shit, did I type that out loud? Dang. Delete, delete, delete...)

7. What name would you prefer besides yours?
Any cute cuddly bear-ish name that my other-blog-half gives me. Whatever Dhaima says would be my name for the month. This month what haa?

People to tag

(I'm going with newbies blogger like myself lah, I'm sure my old timer blog friends has been tagged... and tagged... and tagged.)
  1. Ollie (a.k.a political & current issue rambler)
  2. How Zan (How Zany? He is one of our two IT experts in CoolerClub)
  3. Darrel Wan (our CoolerClubber in Borneo, bila mau kembali ke semenanjung baa?)
  4. Jason Lee (superb photo- blogger)
  5. Dhaima Dandelion (revamping her blog as we speak, also this blog's 2nd moderator)

8. Who is number one?

Core CoolerClubber. Politically & current issue rambler with a fanciness towards performance arts, indie films and music a.k.a cool kepong boy with aspirations to rule the world.

Visit his blog at http://extremeopenness.blogspot.com/

9. Number 3 is having a relationship with?
No comment a.k.a I don't know. Darrel my man, which hot Borneo chick you are with right now haa?

Borneo does produces some of the awesomest women around here. Camelia, my old flame, another old flame, their cute friends.

Visit our Borneo friend at http://darrelwan.blogspot.com/

10. Say something about number 5
Say something? "Say something" is not enough.

Plenty to say about this mutli-cultural, spiritually new age, hippie-loving, artsy fartsy, trendy eye-candy, party wildly, humble but rambles, feminism idealist non-feminist, male-over-friendly, tree hugging, bug squashing, save the world today... perempuan with a heart of platinum with diamond encrusted on the side.

Even if I tell you now, GOD knows when I will finish. It's like an epic tale of endless proportions.

11. How about number 4?
He is one of our photo-blogger friends. This fella is like a panther. Silent killer. You won't notice he's around until he shoots... his dSLR la off course. Good pictures available in his blog.

Visit his cun photo-heavy blog at http://eelnosaj.blogspot.com/

12. Who is number 2?
He is How Zany? Our cool core CoolerClubber who is one half of the IT specialist duo in this group. While the rest party our munky arses off crazy, he will be our Big Brother watching over us. Thanks man.

If this post makes me sound shallow, it's a bad post. If it make me sound funny, it's a good post.

What ya'll think?

Don't really get tagging anyways. Maybe cause my blog is not a place for self promotion. I want you to get to know me. But not on the blog. In real life. At parties etc.

Unless the ladies are reading. Maybe they can make a check list. Hmmm...

Hehehe...

Maybe the last time a CoolerClubber Update post about me.

Chiowz and thank you for readinggg...

Cool Event ~ Time Out KL pres. Time Out : On The Up (Dec '08) @ No Black Tie, 17/12/2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Feat. the up coming indie talents of
  • The Snow Symphony (highly recommended, COOLeriffic band)
  • Rumi
  • A Mantle The Sea
  • Prema Yin

WHAT
A monthly local indie music gig featuring the up coming talents around town, organized by the good peeps at Time Out KL and supported by No Black Tie.

According to the organizers
We’re back yet again with four more local acts. The last one for the year but certainly there’s more to come in 2009. If you have not been to one of Time Out KL’s music showcases, this you should give a go.

The night’s line up includes guitar and violin duo, The Snow Symphony, pop jazz band, Rumi, alternative rock band, A Mantle The Sea and blues rock vocalist, Prema Yin.

WHEN & WHERE
17/12/2008 (Wed), 8.30pm @ No Black Tie, 7 Jalan Mesui, off Jalan Nagasari, 50200 Kuala Lumpur. It's nearby to Jalan Alor, Changkat Bukit Bintang or behind Hotel Istana.

HOW
RM20. RM10 with Time Out KL voucher. According to TOKL, you can contact Ms. Anju / Ms. Kel Li @ 03 2166 6650 for inquiries or advance booking. Voucher details at the end of the post.

Why attend this event?
Best deal in town if you love local indie music. Great, well-known venue with geat accustics. An organizer who really supports the indie scene.

And off course, the numero uno reason would be the performers.

Here are some details I managed to get from some digging around...

The Snow Symphony (Nick Davis with Savy Ho)
- Ear-licious, guitar and violin duo extraordinaire -

According to their blog...
Duo formed by singer-songwriter Nick Davis and violinist Savy Ho. Since their first collaboration in early April, they now refer to themselves as "The Snow Symphony".

They have performed at venues like The Apartment, Laundry Bar, Groove Junction, Cloth and Clef etc. By combining this two individuals together, you get sounds of hard guitar stumming and melancholic violin lines.
Seen them perform at KLPAC a couple of months back @ I-Film Indie : The Gathering (18/10/2008)... REALLY REALLY GOOD.

The singer, Nick Davis has a very good, emo rock-ish sound with a soul-shaking rattle at the end of his verses. Kinda like a younger, rougher, emo version of Damien Rice.

Found this video (after a while of searching around)

Nick Davis (solo). He sings at the end of the interview. Breath taking weh. Imagine this but with violin insertions . Neck hair-raising goodness.

For more good stuff by The Snow Symphony... visit their myspace, blog or Nick's own music blog.

A Mantle The Sea (Alternative rockers)

According to their myspace and blog...

Album available in the USA
This was taken from The Star
A different beat at Longdrawn By Adrian Yap C.K. (April 7, 2005)

"A Mantle the Sea, armed with a non-existent gig portfolio, four songs and a grammatically fractured name, was determined to convert the 120 people present to believers of their strum-heavy R.E.M.-like sound."

Read the rest of the article HERE.
Can't say much about their music. I agree with the Star's article that they sound R.E.M.-ish and my R.E.M. expert, Dhaima is not around to visualize to me how I should appreciate this genre. Not my cup of tea lah.

Maybe you can tell it to me after you visit their myspace and blog.

Rumi (Pop jazz ansemble)

5 man band. Love the vocalist and music. Reminds me of Maliq & D'Essential singing like Meet Uncle Hussain.

Got to check out their music at their myspace, suaranya merdu amat (the vocals are heavenly)

It's like Fusion Jazz with a hint of Indo-Malay Soul singing style

Serious, go check out at their myspace HERE.

And lastly, abit of some upper level indie popularity

Prema Yin (Blues rock with plenty of GIRL POWER)

According to her website...
  • She won NTV 7's, Who Will Win Malaysian Topstar (2005).
  • Performed in various local pub scenes: Bangkok Jazz, Groove Junction, Waikiki etc
  • In the pub scene, performed with such well known personalities as Jerry Felix, Simon Justin, Richard Gomez, Collin Jensen, Albert Sirimal, Ronny Felix, Vijay David and others.
  • Also performed with Colbie Calliat during her past visit here
  • Performed on tv several times and one time with fellow reality TV singer/winner, Jaclyn Victor
  • Also performed at festivals such as Sunrise Jazz Fest, Sarawak Rainforest Festival as well as overseas (China for the Zhu Jia Jia Water Village Festival, Singapore Arts Festival).
  • For the past 3 years, a member of this very popular group, Aseana Percussion Unit.
Fuyoh...

Such seek and hear-worthy credentials. I'm just awed by it. Open-mouthed and salivating. Should be good to see her perform live in No Black Tie's setting. Intimate, small scaled.

You can check her out at her blog, website and myspage page.

To help you develop some idea of this singer (if you haven't had some lah)

8TV Quickie

A more up beat Tina Turner-ish song

Prema Yin Live @ P.I.S.A. Song - Ain't got Tears

I'm learning about all these wonderful indie music when I do research for my blog. It's worth it. There is no way I can know all this from my small world i live in.

Thanks to the online medium, organizers like TOKL and supporting venues like No Black Tie, KLPAC etc that I can savour some of the best of what our local talents can offer.

I can't wait to cure my Indie Music Hungry Syndrom (IMHIS). Plus it's a great midweek excursion from your busy December "I work hard for Xmas bonus" work schedules.

See you where the music is at.

Support good local music!

Chiowz.

Cool Event ~ Smartie Partie VS Massive Worldwide... a last minute comparison for those still undecided (Finale)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

A collaboration post by Dhaima and CoolerFuzz...

Smartie Partie World Tour 2008 (MAS) VS Massive Worldwide 2008?

A battle of Softer EDM and hard EDM?

Free stylers VS Hard stylers?

Head expanding VS head banging?

NO such thing lah. Different people, different preference, different budget etc...

I'm not going to compare this from my point of view, just by factual comparison based on available facts of both parties. No biasness here. No favouritism, cronyism, nepotism... ism..ism

You decide which one you want to go, or maybe go for both.

The real reason I'm doing this post...

Cause Hitz.FM gave Dhaima and I, tickets to both parties.

WTF, we're in a party dilemma. Or are we?

Why attend these events?

Smartie Partie (SP)
After my fact finding and discussions, I concluded that this rave is
  • A mix of live musical performances fused with DJ mixes, Smartie Partie DJ live sets and hot dancers
  • Equipped with high tech rave party gadgetry
  • One which SNOWS? (snow machines)
  • Has a 60' Length LED Wall party
  • With pyrotechnics (planned fire show and explosions etc)
  • With compulsory laser show
  • Hydraulic dance platforms and
  • Musicians/DJs travels around a centre stage
A lot of fancy smancy outdoor dance festival party stuff. Hopefully it materializes, stays true to its claim and comes close to the quality of past SP parties.

Well... it's not a 2 day festival like 2 Days of Freedom, nor it's anywhere near some crazy 2-3 days straight raves like Full Moon parties around the world.

I believe the two days is to provide a more holistic party experience to the targetted party-goers and to cater for those who have to choose which day they can make it. More days, more gains.

Suitable for those into tribal, tech, electro, funky and club anthems and lovers of a more relaxed and self-paced EDM dance festival. No rush to to beat the crowd. Plenty of other stuff to do besides dancing your legs to oblivion.

Really nice...

I like it. Maybe can go for the Friday one. Hmmm...

Visit the official website HERE.

Massive Worldwide
Underground, old skool rave at a central KL venue. Easier access. Sizeable venue.

Meant more for shufflers, hard dance enthusiast, psytrance lovers (like me), hard trance/house ravers and the likes.

This rave reminds Dhaima of the European's "Sensation" event because it is a huge rave and comes with colour-based dress code.

Less festival atmosphere, more straight to the point no nonsense rave party.

Offers best of the best an organizer can bring to you from Europe's, Aussie's and Asian's hard dance EDM genres.

I like this rave party too.

Visit the official website HERE.

Here is the location of Ticketpro outlets to purchase tickets for both venues, http://www.ticketpro.com.my/en/contact

I've done what I set out to do a couple of weeks ago actually, do a comparison for this two parties. If not for your viewing pleasure, it's for me to really dig deep into what both events offer.

Then I got both party invites.

I'm going for both!!!

But first, to cancel some future event planned.

Hope this post helped and I will see you at both parties.

Chiowz.

Humour me ~ TOKL pres. Time Out : Comedy Thursday @ Little Havana, 04/12/08

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

The hardest thing in the world is to tell people how much I laughed... and laughed... and laughed to some jokes after seeing a comedy show. Any comedy show, be it on the tele, YouTube or live shows.

The only way I can tell them about how funny it was, is to tell the jokes myself. Do a "CoolerFuzz Reanactment" of sorts.

Like all my past comedy entertainment experience in which I was fully entertained and laughed my arse off silly, I'm going to illustrate to you, in the best possible way that I can.

Bear with me, this comedy gig was exactly a week ago. Don't think I remember most of the details.

Mellow, drunk malay dude as the comic persona and multiple joke variation

Most memorable joke:

Director wants to cast Malay actors for a malay part but this Ah Beng (Stupid arrogant chinaman), with his gung ho confidence declared he could do the part. So the director decided to test him. Create a story with the usage numerals 1-10 in the story.

Can't remember the exact words, but Zac managed to tell the story as an Ah Beng and a created Cinglish (Chinese-English) story using 1-10 then 10-1. Nice job.

Next act, Chi Ho

Nerdy chinaman as the comic persona, good impersonator of sorts, jokes relating to his nerdy chinaman life, local happenings and how the nerdy chinaman would react to some situations.

I like this joke

Most memorable joke:

Chi Ho: You know what is 'Salah parking'? (Local term for when the male private part is not in its proper place in the undies and you feel uncomfortable)

Chi Ho: Michael Jackson also experienced this.

And he proceeded to do a Michael Jackson dance routine, explaining the reason for the movements is due to 'Salah parking'.

Check out his stuff at a previous comedy gig

Right after, Davina Goh

1st timer, angry mood-swings sarcastic screaming woman as the chosen persona

Most memorable joke: None I could think of.

Kept on screaming her punch line. Can't get her jokes. I've seen this type of comic before, on the top of my mind is Mario Cantone, angry sarcastic gay guy, guest host of The View (US talk show) and acted in Sex in the City.

See this vid for reference.

Davina is still very new. So a longgg, LONGGG way to go. I personally can't do stand up. But when I pay, I expect to understand, laugh my arse off and enjoy.

Maybe I'll skip the next Davina comedy gig.

But when she does theatre, it won't ruin the show though. Maybe it's easier to act for her. What do I know.

And when they hauled her to a chair on the stage, I honestly thought they were gonna 'roast' her.

Roast by comedy definition from Wiki is
A roast, in North American English, is an event in which an individual is subject to publicly bearing comedic insults, praise, outlandish true and untrue stories and heartwarming tributes.

Dang, I thought they wana ROAST her. We could laugh 'at her' instead of 'because of her' which she couldn't

Next up, Kavin Jayaram

Klang indian fella talking bout what he knows most, indians and klang

Plenty of jokes. And we laughed again after the short intermission (Davina Goh's act).

Check out a vid from his past performance. Notice the chinese crowd was jeering but he held strong. Good job.

Last and most anticipated, a good example of what a comic should be not because he hailed from Canada, but because when he hates something, he tuns it into pure comic ecstasy.

Mr. "I hate Singapore"... Jimmy

Pick on a couple of the audience, joke about what he hates and sings about what he hates. Crowd mover and experienced comic. Plus gotta love those who can joke in song and strum that guitar.

Most memorable joke: Those that inspire laughter towards our kiasu, gung ho, arrogant neighbours... the Singaporeans.

I know what I set out to do at the beginning of the post did not materialized. I'm not a comedian. Not that funny. But I have a sense of humour and appreciation towards stand-up comedians good and bad, local or international.

Because to humour us, with original jokes (or copied but made to cater local folks, it's still ok), with a comical persona, on stage, in front of judgemental crowd of paying audience who can rip you apart...

It's tough.

And if I enjoyed it, it is good.

So head down to the next installation of Comedy Thursday by the good people at Time Out KL (TOKL) for a night of good fun and laughter to last you a month long.

Visit TOKL website, for more info on the next comedy gig installations HERE

The last national DJ competition for the year, fresh new DJ talent come together in a mighty clash on December 12 at Zouk for the sixth Pioneer Digital DJ Battle 2008.

Every year, rookie DJs from around the country meet at selected battlegrounds to duel for the championship and a chance to represent the country in a bi-yearly international DJ Battle; last year’s winners, DJs Mic Hoh and Layzr represented Malaysia at the Pioneer Asian Digital DJ Battle 2008 in Thailand.

The competition consists of two categories: Mega Mix and Long Mix and contestants are given 7 minutes and 20 minutes respectively to spin their mixes.

And winners will receive and assortment of prizes with the main prizes being Pioneer Digital Vinyl Turntable (Model CDJ-800MK2), Pioneer Mixer (Model DJM-700) with ProDJ and loads of cash.

(For detailed e-article, the link is at the bottom)

WHEN & WHERE
Friday, 12/12/2008, 7pm till late @ Zouk Club KL (new and strict?)

WHO
5-6 fresh DJs battling it out. I believe it's half in the Mega Mix and the other half in the Long Mix (from my memories of Pioneer DJ Battle 2007)

HOW
Free entry with invites and e-invites (scroll above and print you e-invites)

Why attend this event?
First reason...

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL DJS
. Especially when they're spin-brawling against each other in a local DJ cock fight. Ok, I make it sound like a fight you can place your bets on.

But bet this... the champ will be highlighted every where as the winner of Pioneer's coveted DJ Battle and will represent us in the regional finals.

Local DJs are the back bones of EDM in Malaysia.

Second reason...

Lets see if the event is what it claims to be. (Which it usually is)

The claim

Final and best reason, especially to sponsored event goers like myself...

Extra PERKS on top of being a local music lover, which is a big benefit on itself

The EXTRA PERKS of being a local EDM supporter

Final words from me... make sure you comply to the NEW, STRICT & CATER FOR A DIFFERENT MARKET door policy or rules of the venue.

On top of my head, I can tell you that I think it's for age 23 and above, no caps, round neck shirt and torn jeans. Not sure ok, you better check.

Rules, rules and more rules.

Boring...

But for the event, no rule is greater than the NUMERO UNO RULE which is LOVE YOUR LOCAL EDM SCENE.

See you there mates.

Chiow.

PS - Stay tuned this weekend cause the blog will have mondo massive postsss bout future up-coming previews and past events write-up. Let's pile the post like mad. It is the end of the year. Muahahaha...

COOL LIST REVEAL PARTY

See, mine was a lucky thing.

I'm sure avid Juice Magazine readers should know what's up. And there is NO time left to score the invites via online like I did.

Aiseh.

But get your latest copy of Juice Magazine if you would like to party on another mid-week night with PLENNNNTY of liquid 'motivation' to get your Thursday's job production level downto the very minimal due to some hanging-over from night before.

Hehehe. (Don't do this ok, work hard, party when you can)

This party is about celebrating cool people on a cool list.

Page 1 of the list

For the other 4 pages, check it out HERE

Will post up some back-dated events during his weekend, so far not much theCOOLERexperience type of sponsored events and parties to shout about this month. Maybe in the coming post I'll muster something up.

But so far, a sponsored event you should not miss this coming weekend

10 new spots for fresh DJs at the FoundationKL website

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

This message is brought to you by the FoundationKL

Ok people, listen up! This is going to be the first of many major announcements to come, as we start shaking things up here on The Foundation. Today, we take our first giant leap.10 NEW SPOTS OPEN FOR FRESH FKL DJs. ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?

First up, we are once again allocating individual web spaces, this time 10 - each with a capacity of 4GB and its own subdomain.

But, rather than just giving them out to the first 10 people who request, we’re going to spice things up with a little competition of sorts. Here’s how it’s going to work:

Those who are interested will have to submit a mix, which can either be hosted externally or sent to us via email based delivery methods like ‘Yousendit’ and such. All genres welcomed. We would also require the track-listing, any form of artwork to go along with the mix (400 x 400px @ 72 dpi) and a short bio of the submitter.

We will then proceed to publish a review of the mix and use all our SEO and promo resources to promote the mix. What happens from then on will depend on how much the submitter wants his or her mix to be propagated and heard.

Think of it as a test of your own promotional capabilities. What can you contribute? What ideas can you bring to the table to help create more awareness, not just of The Foundation but also of your work and yourself? What will you do to be heard?

The Foundation Admins will track and analyse all the relevant data such as number of hits, downloads, trackbacks and active discussions for a period of one week from the time the mixset review is published. All stats will be made public.

At the end of the day, DJs with the 10 most active and trafficked mixsets will be awarded their individual webspaces with a capacity of 4GB each and personal subdomains.

What is most important however, is the attitude our new members are going to bring to the site. The last thing we need is some know-it-all douche bag who acts like some big hot-shot, using the allocated spaces as just another place to dump mixes. Or worse, as a personal hard-drive!

We’re looking for lovers of music who are passionate about their own preferences, open-minded about styles other than their own and who possess a desire to spread awareness about The Foundation and its family.

Ambassadors, members and graduates take note. You have a chance to engage in this as well. Many of you have encountered super-talented and enthusiastic DJs that would jump at the chance to be a regular member of FKL. You can help choose the next generation of contributors by recommending people who you think deserve to be heard.

If you would like to nominate yourself or somebody else, leave us a comment below this post, (original post HERE) expressing your interest in participating, as well as the necessary links for the required items as mentioned above. This will help make things simple as well as allow us to keep our list of participants public.

These are certainly exciting times and we look forward to everyone’s participation in this project. If you have any thoughts, recommendations or questions, head to the comments and let us know.

Have a great long weekend and Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha to all our Muslim friends

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

theCOOLERexperience blog would like to wish all our Muslim friends...

And to our non-Muslim friends, "You enjoy right? Long weekend because of our religious stuff. I know you do. Enjoy partying mates!"

This Aidil Adha, I was at my mum's hometown in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

My sanctuary. Best place to escape city life.

And like most families during this special festive season, we sacrifice and share the bounty of a sacrificial animal in the name of God...

Food... food... Mmm goood. Burger patties, ribs, stew, steak, curry...

But my first uncle took it up a notch, he brought the most gargantuan LOBSTER I have seen this year...

What a weird Raya Aidil Adha. Weird but fun one nevertheless...

The monster lobster

My dad. For size comparison.

A close-up

And with the clever, the lobster was gutted and prepared for the familie's good lunch

I know some of you might think the religious practice of some religions are a bit barbaric. Especially when it comes to slaughtering sacrificial animals.

I also know some non-Muslim guys keep on bitchin about how barbaric it is. And one dude, upon seeing how the sacrificial procession takes place, became a vegan.

My point of showing the lobster was to tell you that...

"Hey, isn't it the same. Kill the cow, kill the expensive lobster etc. If you can't stomach seeing how your food is being killed for your gastronomic pleasures. Then don't eat meat.

You vegans... isn't plucking and cooking veggies is another form of killing a being/creature, or are veggies considered lifeless and less important to you?"

Philosophies aside...

That was a scrumptuous lobster. Mmm good.

Can't wait for the steaks.

Have a fun long weekend...

Chiow

Hahaha. Just kiddin man. Good luck.

Check this shit out...

Good stuff. Energetic. Good song selection. Crowd mover and competition shaker.

But lets recap on the past happenings for the that leg of Juice DJ Quest (Malaysia finals) which took place last 07/11/08 @ Zouk Club KL.

The quest

The lonnnggg que (a.k.a come early for the next one ok)

Some EDM lovin' Coolerclubbers... Dhaima, Shereena (ex-coolerclubber) and Kalvin

Ladies went missing in the VIP. Too much 'liquid motivation'.

One more self-picture, ok enough... lets see more important stuff

The crowd when the competition was about to start

The law of the night

DJ Anowl's competition

And when THE man of the night was announced to be on deck, the crowd went wild...

Crowd: "Anowl, Anowl, Anowl..."

DJ ANOWL

The DnB ninja on decks assassinating the competition

110% crowd interaction

'Ready-for-battle' DJ stance

Judgement time

See for yourselves... NO. 1 sign by the judge

Winner prize presentation

That's bout it for now.

Please do not think I glorify the DJ out of some personal benefit.

I like music. And when the music is good, some appreciation is always needed. Especially towards our local acts as they are the one who needs your love the most.

So...

Love Malaysia = Support Malaysian = Support DJ Anowl (Malaysian DJ).

Simple right.

See ya'll soon.

May the FUN be with you.

Cont. from Part 1

EVENT INFO

WHAT
According to Time Out Kuala Lumpur (TOKL),

TOKL is supporting local comedy with our monthly stand-up nights in central KL, showcasing the best young comics in Malaysia.

Come and join us for ‘Time Out Comedy Thursdays’ at Little Havana on Changkat Bukit Bintang on the first Thursday of every month and get your laughing gear around the acts of at least four stand-up comics presented by MC Matt Sally.

Since starting ‘Comedy Thursday’ seven months ago, the event has grown to one of the city’s most exciting and popular nights out. Every month Little Havana is sold out as people cram in to take advantage of the cheap drink offers and bar meals.

WHEN & WHERE
04/12/2008 (Thurs) 9pm onwards, Little Havana, No. 2 & 4, Lorong Sahabat, Off Changkat Bukit Bintang, KL.

WHO
Talents for the night
  • Chi Ho
  • Kavin
  • Yugi (Hooraay)
  • Steve Northcott (Canadian stand-up, some international flava)
  • Davina Goh
HOW
RM20. RM10 with voucher. According to TOKL, you can contact Ms. Anju / Ms. Kel Li @ 03 2166 6650 for inquiries or advance booking

Need the voucher? Click HERE.

Why attend this event?
According to the TOKL article about the past most recent Comedy Thursday...
"Time Out Comedy Thursday reached new heights this month, November 6, when over 150 people crammed into Little Havana for the biggest authentic stand-up night in KL for years."

"Comedy Thursdays have steadily grown since they started seven months ago. This month people had to be turned away on the door as the crowd spilled onto the stage and had to squeeze into ‘standing room only’ at the back of the upstairs bar at Little Havana on Changkat Bukit Bintang."
Big claim indeed. But then, as I read on, I saw the list of that night's talents and one in particular made me go "Aaaaa... No wonder la they say it's nicest thing in KL so far"

The comedian I'm referring to is Hishamuddin Rais who performed that night, his first time in years. Not really famous for his comedy acts (so far that I know la cause this is the first I'm hearing off it), this fella is more known for his political views and activism.

Check out his "You say and write stupid things, I laugh like mad and kutuk (comment)" kind of blog, Tukar Tiub.

Been to one of his lectures before and personally, I can tell you that the humour comes natural in his witty comments and views because of the mindset and political standings.

And you won't hear the same kind of stuff said with mainstream-accepted political activism. The good stuff always comes from the other side.

Other talents were Ariff Faisal, Yugi Bear, Alfred and Zac Kamal.

Hosted by MC Matt Sally, each stand-up comedian has a 25 minute set and the venue setting is conducive for direct-comedy impact, almost like a traditional brick-wall setting which only works in small clubs (minus the organizers banner la)

Article link and comments from past Comedy Thursday attendees at the end of the post.

I was not actually satisfied by just reading the article, so I went and tube the past show. This is what I got (I also got some laughs into me, these comics are A-OK)

Yugi's Stand-up Comedy Part 1

Blogger's comment - Yugi is good. Fast-paced succession of humorous stories, funny antics in between. Very humorous.

Alfred Loh's Stand-Up Comedy Part 1

Ariff Faisal's Stand-up Comedy Part 1

The vids above are courtesy of The Young Comedians of Malaysia. Seriously, this is good, an accessible stand-up comic and/or comedian collective in Malaysia. Kinda makes you think that if you want to do this, there is hope and there are people to go to for support.

Some other seek-worthy famous stand-up and mixed talent or variety comedians around town which I like
  • Andrew Netto (new hot stuf)
  • Comedians and toastmasters K. Loghandran and Fong Muntoh (a.k.a. Logi and Monti) - now this is humour
  • Afdlin Shauki Show (Our Mr. funny man, modern P. Ramlee)
  • Harith Iskandar Musa Show (now he is having his must go Nationwide Live Comedy Tour '08)
  • Helmi the Gimmic (Anything you want. Sings Cantonese, Mandarin, Tamil, Hindustan etc etc.)
  • Jit Murad Solo Show (he talks fast)
  • Douglas Lim Show (synical typical softy chinaman)
  • Leonard Tan Show (sings, comes with an ensemble of 3 musicians)
  • Yusof Chong - Impersonation of Malaysian Cabinet Minister, crazy funny
  • Dee of "Jangan Ketawa"
  • Din Beramboi (very energetic)
Live sketch-based and improvisation-type (improv) comedy acts which I have enjoyed or want to see
  • Actorlympics (local star-studded "Whose line is it anyways)
  • Artificially Intelligent: Improvaholics Anonymous (like this one better, more grassroots amateur troop)
  • Comedy Court with Alan Perera & Indi Nadarajah (wakakaka all the way)
  • Other comedians who performs under the Instant Cafe Theatre Company

That's about it for now.

Have a good laugh guys. Comedy is the best remedy for your blues. And when you get addicted, your humour-level increases, leading you to find more complex forms of humour. More intellectual ways to tickle your funny bones.

See you at the gig. May the fun be with you.

Chiowz.
