Future event ~ POP ROCK QUEEN VS COOL NU AGE ROCKERS

THIS IS A NON-EDM/CLUB SPONSORED EVENT PREVIEW.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Never been to an International performer's concert? Why?

  • Does the concert cause your wallet to self-combust and burn up in flames

  • Maybe the concert is way... WAYYYYYY beyond your monthly entertainment expenditure (which is mostly spent on downloads... wait... that can be free too isn't it)

  • The concert can cause a month-long MAGGI eating discomfort

  • The concert may displeased your spouse or partner due to lack of cash which should be allocated for them (thank GOD for going dutch)

  • The concert causes you to have to work overtime/start a business/sell pirated DVDs/sell your kidneys

ehem... I believe I've made my point.

Avril Lavigne is coming TO MALAYSIA at the end of this month. Apart from being a ONE-HELL-OF-A-GOOD concert for fan and non-fans alike... All the above statements applies to her concert

Check it out here

When
29/08/2008, 8pm

Where
Stadium Merdeka (Outdoor), Kuala Lumpur

How (This is the 'best' part of all)

Free Standing (Free? What free... Nah, just kiddin')

RM338 - RM268 - RM188

Free Seating (Binoculars needed, or maybe a huge telescope)

RM168 - RM138 - RM98

What
It's AVRIL-freakin'-LEVIGNE... come on. Kampung people (like my aunt in Negeri Sembilan) also knows this celeb.

Ok... for those oblivious of who she is in detail.

Avril Lavigne is a Canadian pop punk singer/songwriter and actress who is known for her “skater punk” persona.

This Canadian Grammy award-nominated pop punk singer also has won two World Music Awards in 2004 for World’s Best Pop/Rock Artist and World’s Best Selling Canadian Artist.

She received five Juno Award nominations in 2005, picking up three including, Fan Choice Award, Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year. She also won the award for Favourite Female Singer at the eighteenth Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

And... her albums are sold worldwide and sales are OFF-THE-ROOF. Million, gazillion dollars sales for every album.

Hotlink and The Galaxy Group are the organizers for Avril Lavigne Live in KL.

The Hotlink promotions via entertainment side was behind other class A acts such as Gwen Stefani, Korean pop sensation Rain, Sean Kingston, Pussycat Dolls, Fort Minor, and the Black Eyed Peas in Malaysia.

They also brought in top Chinese entertainers such as David Tao, Eason Chan, Leo Ku, Miriam Yeung, S.H.E, Jay Chou and Z Chen.

(source: Hotlink press release)

The Galaxy Group are the people that do the fun but hard work.

Claimed to be the current leader in concert management in Malaysia, they have more than ten years of experience and a good track records in managing concerts.

They also claimed that The Galaxy Group is "billed the most reliable concert management company by the people in the entertainment industry".

Named "Show-King of Malaysia" by the press, they have the reputation of staging only sold-out shows with paying audience ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 spectators to each concert.

(source: Galaxy.com)

Impressive...

Why attend this concert?
I'm not so sure. Not my cup of tea. But if you're a fan of 6-7 years. And you still love her music till today...

Just go... GO I say!

Personally, and I don't mean to sound like a dick ok... but when I go to concerts, I want to be at the front row, or I don't go at all.

The ones that I've been so far, I was at the front. It cost an arm, a leg, some internal organs, sperm etc.

But the BEST place or maybe the only place to see THE FACE and to fully appreciate is at the front.

But, I'm short of a few hundred bucks. Maybe it's time to rob that bank. Hmmm...

BUT

THERE'S A BETTER MORE AFFORTABLE WAY TO FEED THAT DESIRE FOR INTERNATIONAL PERFORMERS

When
05/08/2008 (Tuesday.. wtf), 8pm

Where
Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil

How (this IS THE BEST PART.. seriously!)

Promotion Price (till 2 August 2008)

ROCKZONE (Free Standing)

RM 88 or

RM 68 - PROMOTION PRICE till 2nd August

LOWER TIER (Free Seating)

RM 118 or

RM 98 - PROMOTION PRICE till 2nd August

What
Panic at the Disco Live in Malaysia. In conjunction with their 10th anniversary, Panic at the Disco (also known as Panic! at the Disco) will be HERE... in a couple of days time to NUROCK YOUR SOCKS OUT!

Originated in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA... their sound incorporates elements of pop, punk, big beat, electronica, dance, and rock, along with many other genres like psychedelic, folk and jazz.

Their 2005 debut album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, reached #13 on the US Billboard 200, and has sold over 2.2 million copies since its September 2005 release. The band's second album, Pretty. Odd., was released on March 25, 2008 and debuted at #2 in the US.

(source: Axcess website)

Why attend THIS concert instead of the other one?
I don't know either. You decide what you want. I'm not playing favours.

All I can say is that, even though the Panic at the Disco Live in Malaysia concert has only been in the concert news grapevines quite recently, this concert is set to be a REAL international NUROCK experience.

In comparison to the POP STAR QUALITY, honey glazed, effects-driven, back-up dancers and WOW factor of the Avril Lavigne's concert...

I still choose the Panic boys. Real rock showmanship has never sided pop stars plus I'm predicting alot of young girl punk-rock wannabees at the other concert.

So see you at the Disco gig.

Chiowz!

PS - I want to go to all concerts irregardless of genre, but I can't can I. This is not a REAL critical comparison post like I used to do. Just venting here. Hahaha...

July's '08 Aftermath No. 2 ~ Ruums 2nd Anniversary feat. DJ Ken Ishii (JAP) @ Ruums KL, 05/07/2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

2nd featured party of the month of July '08.

For the previous part

The day before was July's '08 Aftermath No. 1 ~ Tuborg pres. Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy, KL 04/07/2008

Check out our 2 part review here - Part 1 & Part 2

I would like to personally thank the good people at Ruums via JK (FoundationKL) for paving our way to this party with guest list VIP invitations.

THE PARTY

THE PLACE

Upon arriving, it was a somber yet you can feel that a celebration is put on place.

As usual, early to any party.

Like they always say, " First one in, last one standing"

Invited guest poured in. As usual, registration was needed.

No ID check for this event. Kinda nice. Last thing we 'LOVE' are lining up, getting sweaty before the party just to be checked by security.

Main sponsor

Ruums KL is one of the clubs which partners/promotes Bacardi. There are others. Not sure where. Have to check it out.

The early partier gets the 'sponsored' flow of 'motivation'.

On the menu that night was cold (semi-cold actually) lager. Carlsberg straight from the tap to the plastic Ruums cups. Not impressed.

Pre-Ken Ishii crowd. Every boy and girl enjoying the streams of 'motivation'.

Upstairs was for VVIP. NO ENTRY. Not sure who they are. I'm assuming business partners, connections, important people in the scene.

The source of the streams of 'motivation'.

I'd say sizable bar counters they have in Ruums. 3-4 counters in total. Not the friendliest barmen I've met. Maybe it was a big event for them. They're busy...

Ruums has one of the biggest dancefloor in the central KL clubbing area. It can easily fit 250-300 (maybe more) on the dancefloor.

But on the night, 80% dancefloor was converted into a massive dance arena/stage. Kind of far from where I was standing to see the DJ. I'll tell you why there was a stage instead of an open dancefloor later.

Isn't it big. Can't even see the crowd clearly in this picture from where I was taking the picture.

NOT Ken Ishii.

Ruums resident DJ. Even before the highlight for the night, the playlist consist of trance mixes and above (Hardtrance almost). Another factor in why they have a big stage.

SHUFFLERS! They popped out from the woodworks like crawlies in the night.

Very young shufflers I may add. I'm in my early twenties and I think they're young.

SHUFFLERS took control of the stage. They went wild...

Nah... I chatted with a couple of them, they are special invitees SPECIFICALLY invited to whip up a frenzy of cool shuffling and provide a hardstyle dance show.

I'm no shuffler, but seeing these healthy (they should be to dance that way), non-alcoholic/drug oriented partiers brings warmth to my soul... knowing that what Khvn van Buuren said has alot of truth.

"Music makes me high"

A place to breath. No need to venture out to catch a breather when your in Ruums. They kinda have a patio/balcony like area where you can chill

Not scenic reality-of-life view from the breather area. I have never used this road to come to central KL nightlife area. It's like a GUARANTEED congested time, everytime.

Enthusiastic? Hmmm...

I was enthusiastic. I was the only one though. For the love of events!

We had to bail early due to some other emerging priority.

We also missed DJ Ken Ishii.

I bet he was a hit among the shufflers. No, rephrase. I'm sure he was a HIT to those who enjoy HARDTRANCE because this Chicago Techno veteran knows how to drive people hard.

Kinda sad that no one blogged about this event or even reviewed this event, especially DJ Ken Ishii's performance. For if there were, I would have linked them here.

Overall, it was another of those MIXED-FEELINGS events for CoolerClub.

Next up, it's another 'sponsored'-flow party (abit personal this time) where I celebrated the official introduction of Clique Bar Lounge, the first street-level bar at Bintang Walk past 12 July 2008.

Chiowz.

July's '08 Aftermath No. 1 ~ Tuborg pres. Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy, KL 04/07/2008 (Part 2)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Check out what happened in the first part HERE.

In the climax of Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes" Party 2008, when CoolerClubbers were thoroughly 'motivated' with plenty of JUICE in our small private room at Poppy KL...

Before we proceed, some real review about the event...

Event Review

Juice anniversaries, especially this one is very much associated with the people who provides sponsorship. Easily said, the more sponsors, the better.

Different Juice anniversaries features different sponsors, Tommy Hilfiger last year, Adidas this year. This year's party even had a automobile sponsorship by Subaru.

These type of parties are among the best way to get updated and get a feel for the brands showcased for the night. Because only those who want to come, come. And those who come are also those who will pay attention to the brands showcased.

I love the "first few hundred get sponsored goodies thing", it's not because I love 'sponsored' stuff (which most Malaysian do), but you can see that it kinda works to get the early crowd in. Also good for photo op. The last thing an organizer needs its a performer/promotion session done to an almost-empty floor.

Entertainment wise, they went rojak (mix) this year. I personally prefer focussed-type of entertainment. But it works when you want to try to grab all your audience range. On the night, there was something for everybody. Hey, even the VIPs heard Rudy of Hitz FM sing!

Talking bout everybody, crowded VIP areas are a BIG NO-NO. Thankfully it didn't happen at this party. But it was a stand still downstairs. Try having a bottle of your favorite 'motivation' on a small table with no stools and constantly nudged by passerby and disturb by the people on the next table. My heart is with you, mates.

Other than that, I'd say it's a Cooler A-OK! So come for next year's Juice Anniversary aight and I bet you that thre will be more stuff to get and the same if not better quality performers, party ambiance and party experience.

Back to the party.

We got abit out of control, in a good way off course.

This post is dedicated to the main core CoolerClubbers... YOU GUYS ARE COOLER-CLUBBERS!

Climax time for the party and check out the MASSIVE crowd downstairs.

MASSIVE crowd

In my 'motivated' state, I went downstairs, went away from the serene and comfort of our VIP room and got lost (well, I wasn't in the best state of consciousness anyways). Couldn't even find the DJ at the main area.

I literally ran back upstairs and stayed there. I believe most of us did. we went down, see what we needed to see, then retreat.

12 midnight onwards, VIPs were entertained by Passion's resident DJ

Again, just for reminder, the place to be is the private... PRIVATE room at Passion

Let the party begin...

The STARS

DD (CoolerClubber since 2005)

Calvin (Latest addition to CoolerClub)

HowZan a.k.a How Zany? (CoolerClubber since 2006)

Big Bro James (CoolerClubber since 2006)

Khvn van Buuren (CoolerClubber since 2006)

Edmundo (CoolerClubber since 2006)

SueSue (CoolerClubber since 2007)

Some random guy who joined us partyin. I think he works for Adidas. Correct ha guys? Nevermind

Ollie (CoolerClubber since 2006)

Polystyrene STAR MUNCHER

Mr. Jim Beam a.k.a GD (CoolerClubber since 2006)

If sitting down, drinking your JUICE and trying to chit chat in a dance club environment is what you call partying...

Then look at this

Dance is for fun

Dance is to feel free

Dance is... wtf!?#

What would a CoolerClub attended event be without our al-Qaeda like recruitment process.

Just kiddin'

Some COOL 'real' people we met (the rest met actually, cause I didn't take these)

PR guy

This dude is a singer-songwriter or something like that

ex-CoolerClubber, Wanie

(why must we bother our local celebs... haiyoh)

The best part, the "I can't believe these happened at a party" part...

CoolerClub's 'Irishmen' T-KO. Come on guys, your suppose to win drinking contest for us. Wtf...

She claimed to be sleepy. Hello... how can you sleep with a speaker on top of your head?

Then Khvn van Buuren found this piece of cloth. He became el-Matador!

Edmundo before the storm... look how calm and COOL he is

But then...

TOO MUCH 'MOTIVATION'!!!

If you have read this far.. thanks. You might be wondering why la fuss about ordinary things or people in a club. As if we never partied.

The thing is, I never truly appreciate the extend of what being a true-blue CoolerClubber is for all the current core members. But everytime I view the pictures we have, I'm touched.

Mind you, CoolerClub is an open party-oriented social club which was started by 2 dudes.

A guy who was sick of wasting his money on ridiculous/dangerous parties and another dude, new to the scene but was damn good with the Internet.

CoolerClubbers (in entirety) were not school mates, college buddies, work colleagues etc.

We just good natured people who breaks cultural boundaries, with alot energy who bunch up, find good parties, promotes the parties to our circle (and now the blogosphere) and have alot of no-holds-barred, ease-of-mind FUN.

We have come a long way guys.

See you party animals at the next sponsored event.

I'm out...

Wuzzzuppp...

OK... I think I have left the 1st event of the "Merdeka Month Motivations" series on the top of the post for quite a considerable amount of time.

But if you still didn't know about the 1st of many MUST GO events of August. Check it out here

Future event ~ Merdeka Month Motivations with The Epic Tribe presents PSYDTRACKED @ Palate Palette, 02/08/2008

Now let's move on to some back-dated reviews of past July 2008 events attended.

July 2008 is still and has been a real SHOCKER to my system as we had a MASSIVE-load of sponsored events around town.

And sponsored events are not or do not come as often as your average club events.

Cause when a company or an organization decides to have a sponsored event, they mean business (pun intended).

This month has seen some anniversaries, launches, brand promotion efforts, more brand promotion efforts and that 'one' brand promotion effort at a LARGE scale.

And because yours truly usually wakes up the morning after with a MASSIVE head-ache, it was decided that a compilation of sponsored events would end this crazy month of July in a more memorable note.

August 2008 will see more sponsored parties, the month's closing and merdeka party to celebrate CoolerClub's "Merdeka Month Motivations" and

The Cooler Experience exclusive interview with Judge Jules

(interview by CoolerFuzz and Khvn van Buuren)

Let's get on with the first sponsored event review from our "July is going to murder us... but we die a happy death" series

Where it happened. Passion / Poppy Garden KL

THE PARTY

Before we continue, let's talk bout Juice Magazine and Juice anniversaries

CoolerClub did a short write-up on JUICE magazine. Read it HERE

Juice Anniversaries?

Theme-based, sponsor-driven ONE OF A KIND parties concocted to celebrate the popularity and to further boost the image of the magazine.

An very popular THANK YOU party to celebrate those behind Juice/Catcha M'sia, advertisers and sponsors, media friends and YOU GUYS, the readers or fervent supporters of the magazine.

CoolerClubbers has been to Juice 4th Anniversary "Hats and Bananas" @ Ruums KL in 2006 and the 5th Anniversary "Rock Party" @ Passion/Poppy KL last year.

and this year they went western with

Tuborg pres. Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy, KL 04/07/2008

Kindly notice the THEME and the DATE. Please think of a country (the BIG ONE... no, not China, the other one) and think about its Independence Day.

Then you'll see what I'm talking about.

Enough yakking, let's get back to the review.

As usual, the earliest one at any sponsored event

Most attendees came by e-flyer invite. The good people from Tuborg and Adidas paved our night with VIP invites.

VIP bar. Where you get your 'sponsored' drinks

Screwdriver a.k.a vodka with orange juice. I think it was 42Below or some other brand. Forgot.

Ok, this part is abit funky. While others were cramping with each other downstairs, watching good performances from

Twilight Actiongirl - best electro DJs around town
One Buck Short - need no introduction.
DJ Fuzz with MC Philly Roca (K-Town Clan) - Should be GREAT!
Vice Modern Disco - we'll see how, no comment

and the Adidas Originals fashion show with styling by ILLKIDD downstairs at the main room

we were at...

Our own room!

And most of us MISSED all the fun things happening at the crowded area downstairs at the main room and even at the VIP area because... read back the previous sentence again and you'll get it.

Well, what some of us missed, we gained on other things. Like buckets of this. Mmmm...

So lets end the first part with BEFORE pictures (like the before and after pictures) of some CoolerClubbers enjoying the night.

GD

Calvin

James downing the screwdriver

Edmund too, Ollie at the back

DD and WHAT THE FUZZ

Sue not taking her 'on the rocks' well

Tuborg!!!

Stay tune for part deux as we witness some CoolerClubbers gone wild!

Chiowz.

Future event ~ Merdeka Month Motivations with The Epic Tribe presents PSYDTRACKED @ Palate Palette, 02/08/2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

The month of July is the CoolerClub's month of...

  • back-to-back parties
  • 'sponsored' parties galore
  • 1 very massive 'sponsored' party
  • the most 'sponsored' flow of 'motivation' at parties any month we have seen
That is why we dubbed July as the month that ended the CoolerClubbers miserable existance by killin's us (literally) as we are overdosed in 'sponsored' event happiness.

That's why it's called "July is going to murder us... but we die a happy death".

This last weekend of July is going to further F*&^ us UP! (in a good way off course)

We still have

  • Stuff Magazine's 4th Anniversary @ Republic, Sunway Pyramid (25/07/2008),
  • RedSession's POWER OF NATURE Party @ Heritage Mansion, AHR.(25/07/08)
  • RedSessions presents Paul van Dyk: VONYC Sessions Tour @ Zouk KL (26/07/2008)
Now, as I have mentioned in the previous post (or maybe you didn't notice) that the reviews of all events attended in the month of July will be posted after the last one attended.

Reason being that I'm toooooooo busy (a.k.a lazy). Plus, everytime I woke up from an event the night before I would be in NO mood to write, then procrastination kicks in. Yada yada yada...

Hopefully August would change me.

And today, I'm seeing a glimspe of that "light of change"... because

August is CoolerClub's MERDEKA MONTH MOTIVATIONS and guess which event is first on our list.

Thanks to JK and Radzy for notifying us

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

I'm privellaged to get those invites to the LapSap Turns 1 party tonight (23/07/2008).

But...

Ouuuch!

My recurring thigh injury from WAYYY back during my college rugby days came back (Yes people, I played the MANlier sport of rugby. Got stepped on the head, broken bones... no prob).

I'm limping everywhere. Must be from over exhaustion this past week. Dang...

Not going. Already told 'em. So there's two places available. Contact them k.

But, earlier today I received this by courier and it cheered me up instantly

Muahahaha *eeevil laughter*...

My exclusive VIP Invites to Power of Nature Party @ Heritage Mansion this Friday (25/07/2008). Joining myself to this party will be Edmund and Dhaima (anyone else I missed?).

PVD? If I survive Power of Nature... No promise boys.

Let's get back to the post. This post is no mere ending to the ULTRA-LATE Urbanscapes 2008 post.

It is where I tell you why some of us was overJOYed to have been apart of this hopefully annual endeavour.

P.Dandelion chatted up and got friendly with these boys...

THE TIMES!!!

She loves their music. But she always has a way to be less of a groupie and more of a person when she meets our local celebs. That's why they spend time to chat with her. Magic...

I on the other hand... was, is and will always be mesmerized upon watching this singer songwriter perform...

CoolerFuzz presents...

THE MAIN REASON WHY I WENT TO URBANSCAPES

KOKOKAINA!!!

The Urbanscapes 2008 Accoustic Livehouse stage was packed to the brim when Kokokaina was performing and I was front row!

Ever since myself and hundreds of thousands of other Youtubers found her music vids on the tube, we were hooked.

Caught in a limbo of distrust and musical bliss that this petite Sarawakian can produce/write exceptional quality songs and SING, the likes of Ella Fitzgerald , Billie Holiday, Norah Jones, Amy Whinehouse and the other classic jazz evergreen singers.

Malaysian's who can sing and play the ukelele deserves my thumbs UP!

If you were not there at the show, you gotta let these vids explain Kokokaina to you.

Check out Kokokaina's performance at Urbanscapes 2008. I also have a short bio of her and an interview by The Star RAGE coloumn at the end of the post.

Enjoy...

Thanks to xumbnayan for uploading this full length Kokokaina show from Urbanscapes 2008.

For more info and works about xumbanayan click HERE and Youtube page HERE

Who is Kokokaina?

KokoKaina is a singer for the new millennium. Discovered on YouTube by none other than Patrick Keeler, drummer for The Raconteurs and subsequently signed to Brushfire Records (home to Jack Johnson, Matt Costa and Rogue Wave), this is one girl who is set to be big.

What’s ironic is despite the modern technologies that aided her discovery, the petite singer is an old soul. With a voice that is a throwback to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, KokoKaina creates wonderful and bittersweet songs that will wow you over with its warmth and emotion.

Back-dated post ~ The reason why I was happy last 28th June (Part 2)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

OMG!

I forgotten bout the continuation of this 2 part post about last month's outing to Urbanscapes 2008 @ KLPAC.

Kept it in the Draft/Edit post section and because mine is too overloaded with other drafts of events previews and reviews, I missed and forgotten bout it.

Stupid me...

Poor busy me also...

I'm busy because:

  1. I have a beginner level Mandarin language conversation exam this 25th July (need to pass to advance)

  2. In between class I occasionally run around looking for a job/part time job (any event company interested? I've been a PA to an event manager, an announcer, college course guide, did my thesis with VMY 2007 Secretariat, interned and worked as PR/MC with Force of Nature Aid Foundation etc etc...)

  3. Still looking around for my next choir/singing project

  4. Getting back my motorbike lisence (expired like 3 years ago) since my lil bro revived my BELOVED SCOOTER with body and engine modifications and a fresh coat of Pearl Purple paint.

  5. I'm partying around also like nobody's business (July is killing us!) Attended 9 sponsored events this month. Others, I just had to let go due to conflicting schedules etc.

Still pondering why some of us didn't get those Paul van Dyk invites even though we registered and communicated with the organizer (gotta pay to play lah this time... don't mind, it's freakin PVD!)

Tell you what, after thinking bout when is the best time I should post my out-dated and late reviews of July's events.

I came to the conclusion that the best thing to do is to compile them at the end ot the month and produce a sequence of posts.... after all the hoo-hah has ended.

I'm not a fast good writer of post. It's either I write it up fast or I write it up good and detailed. I choose the latter.

Events for August onwards will be posted beginning August the 1st.

So let's get on with it and finish this post.

PS - This post is also part "Cool Finding" as we will feature The Cooler Experience artist of the month. So Stay tuned.

For the previous post click HERE

This sequence of events happened late noon at Urbanscapes 2008 @ KLPAC past 28/06/2008

My Urbanscapes 2008 paper doll (limited item)

When it was less scorchin' outside, the CoolerClubbers went for some bazaar shopping (the tents were where the food at and the Tounge in Chic section of local designer apparels/pre-loved items

The REAL bazaar. Angkatan Baju Malaya and Bijou Bazaar's group of local designers and flea marketers

This was The XPax Lawn stage where some of the best local bands performed. It was empty so we moved on

Saw this dude after the above. Dude is T.A.L.E.N.T.E.D. His from the Bijou Bazaar Accoustic Collective

KL Stompers. They stole the crowd with their innovative music. Notice no traditional percussions. Also very T.A.L.E.N.T.E.D.

Went back in to the KLPAC building and headed to Pentas 2 to see some bands. Seven played earlier. The above pic is the band 'Deserters'

On and off, we went to check the XPAX Lawn Stage. OAG was scheduled to performed around5.30pm. THEY NEVER CAME. Boooo...

Sometime after that.

We were at the XPAX Lawn Stage now

We enjoyed to this band (especially Dandelion), Estrella.

I'm not sure why, but I didn't feel the band as a whole. Not much interaction in between band members (kinda look like a lounge act). Maybe they're tired or something.

Got to watch this band... Seven Collar T-Shirt. 10 years of good music and still growing. Music resembles those of the mellow-rock genre. Malaysian Radiohead!

Left the stage to check out other happenings. Found the KLue mag booth. Chit chat and filled up more forms

When there is a booth which offers 'sponsored' tattoo painting, you gotta do it. It's just plain carnival-like behaviour...

Meow!

Other CoolerClubbers got them self painted too.

Early evening... tireddd... While the rest head up to Pentas 1 to chill, I was at...

Xpax Lakeside with LAPSAP. I saw cool music/party blogger Adlisyahril. He didn't saw me though. Busy enjoying himself. Party on mate!

Best place to enjoy a LapSap party... 1st class partyin' at the front row

After LapSap, I went to join the rest for some poetry reading and one of Malaysia's best poetry battle/jams... the KL Poetry Slam by Dram Projects & Word Forward @ Pentas 1. Round 2 hours plus of recitals and battling. Nice stuff.

But most importantly, is this performers...

While the rest enjoyed to Twilight Action Girl @ the lakeside and One Buck Short, They Will Kill Us All and The Times @ the lawn stage (Dandelion and Sue left the group to watch The Times performed)...

We partied HARD to local HARD TRANCE gurus

BASS AGENTS

Didjital, Xt-Acid and Ganjaguru on deck

They took turns to drive us into HARDTRANCE mode!

Music-driven-ecstacy

Fuuuh... done. Wait, not yet. One more post about this.

In the last episode of this post on our Urbanscaes 2008 experience,

I will tell you what made our day, what was the reason we were HAPPY attending Urbanscapes 2008.

Stay tuned...

Future event (NEW) ~ July is going to murder us LapSap style... but we die a happy death this 23th July 2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

LapSap Turns One

When
23 July 2008, 9pm

Where
Palate Palette Restaurant & Bar

How
Private party

What
LapSap is turning one and is intent on throwing a party to remember.

There will be 'sponsored' flow of Heineken and 42 Below Red Bull cocktails - while stocks last of course!

There will also be free shoes from Adidas and Reebok to be given away.

Guest DJs The Beens from Germany and Has from Singapore. And the birthday boys 5ft and Mr Phua of course.

Why attend this event?
It's sooo blatantly obvious. LAPSAP!!! and also the sponsored 'MOTIVATION' (Heiny & Red Bull cocktail... so "Uh? Merry can") and prize give-aways.

Been to a couple of their sets/performances at various gigs but I've always wanted to attend a REALLY private LapSap party.

GOT IT! I got 'em invites. Muahaha *happy evil laughter*. LapSap is going to trash me with some GOOD MUSIC.

See you guys (maybe not) at the bash.

Chiowz!

PS - I was requested to pull down this post/event listing last week (on 16/07/2008) as this is a private party and the organizers would not want an overload of unwelcomed request to attend this.

I have complied. Hopefully no stray e-mails invitations went trough since then. Funny thing was, after I have gotten the invites, I saw the event info in KLue online. Funny rite...

So I'm posting this now just to inform of what's going on tomorrow (23/07/2008).

Did you forget who LapSap are? Are you sure? Let me remind you...

LapSap means trash or rubbish in Cantonese.

LapSap Parties are one of the most talked about private party in town. I'd say top 10.

Ever since it started about a year ago (2007), fans of this party has been trying to get on the invite list (including me).

Lapsap is made up of 5ft (DJ Blink) and Mr Puah (Xu), the names are their alter egos.

It's also a party collectively done by “the lovely neighbours” consisting of Ethan the Illkidd and a whole bunch of party animals.

There's no “theme” in a LapSap party, 5ft and Mr Puah just put out a subject for the month and its up to the partiers who come and decide what they want to party to.

Party themes ranges from "what the partiers feel on that particular day" i.e. they feel nu rave, they come in colours. Then next month that person might feel very goth and come in black etc.

The parties is just a place for people who like express their feelings and party-out to some good music.

Hennessy Artistry ‘The Global Art of Mixing’ Press Conference 18/07/2008 (Finale, Part 3)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Finale to this not-supposed-to-be long post...

The gentleman is Mr. Sam Jeveons

A UK-based professional mixologist, Sam Jeveons has worked at award winning bars in the UK and Australia.

With quite a reputation in the scene with some titles on his belt... Havana Club UK champion, 2nd in the world IBA Grand Prix in Cuba ’05, 2nd in the inaugural 42 Below World Cup in NZ ’04...
Sam Jeveons was flown in by Hennessy to premire KL city's new cocktail

Hennessy Kuala Lumpur

If you watch carefully the following set of pix, maybe you can make one of your own

Shaker/mixer and cocktail glass of choice

A dash of Angostura bitters

5ml Grand Marnier

40ml fresh lime and pineapple juice (decoratively poured from an emptied pineapple)

A shot of Hennessy (bout 30ml or so.. or more in my case)

Give it a professional "Sam Jeveons' Shake"

Add preferred garnish

and...
.

Voila! Your very own professional Hennessy KL.

My honest advice would be: Let the barmen do their job. Lets get those Hennessy KL wherever possible, sit and chill. Enjoy the drink... aaahhh... then get another one, then another, then another...

With the cocktail in their hands, a toast... To the increase of awareness in Hennessy as a classy, more favourable drink for the young and bold

Salute!

Other things that went on

Possible Dj Latin Prince collabo with the local boys? We'll see...

Local Chinese entertainment channel flocked at Machi

Non-set up picture of the Hennessy KL cocktail

The whale that drank the cocktail

The RM 1000 - 1200 3 litre bottles of Hennessy (which a reporter or someone accidentally hit and lucky for him it didn't fell and break... RM 1000 mistake)

My Hennessy 'on the rocks' provided by the good barmen there. Glistening delight

What else?

Apart from the press kit, they gave us a cd pack. Thanks.

Flo Rida's and Machi's album

I hope you have enjoyed this overly lengthy post about a press conference, it is my 2nd press con as a blogger. It is also the better one.

What else can I do for the organizers... Hmmm... That's enough for now (Hennessy people, guys know how to reach me *wink*)

Stay tune for when the CoolerClubbers get LOW and CRUNK CRAZY dancing and spectating to performances by FLO RIDA!!!, MACHI, DJ LATIN PRINCE, POP SHUVIT...

did a college assignment, met tonnes of cool/important people, when IN and OUT of the VIP section like nobody's business eventhough we're not, 'motivated' till we can't take it anymore...

at THE event.

Chiowz...

In the part deux of this post, COOLERFUZZ has reportedly gone NIKON D50 crazy.

He was last seen at Hilton KL yesterday (18/07/08), at the hours between 2.30pm - 4.30pm running around Hennessy Artistry ‘The Global Art of Mixing’ Press Conference, trigger MAD and SHOT almost everything he saw.

This is what it looked like...

The lady in black manning the counter is Jojo, CoolerFuzz's ex-coursemate

Jien, CoolerFuzz's 1st victim to be SHOT on scene

He SHOT these fine Hennessy usherettes

Scene of the press con before the event started

Nice set up

Unconventional press con seating arrangement for an unconventional press con

Nuffnangers... front row

Host for the afternoon, Belinda and Owen

After the day's event is introduce, the MCs announced and ushered one by one, the performers for the Hennessy event

POP SHUVIT

MACHI from Taiwan

DJ LATIN PRINCE from USA

and the piece de resistance of the whole shindig...

FLO RIDA!!!

Here's Flo Rida (accompanied by DJ... Hmmm, not sure who) givin' a pose for CoolerClubbers News

Here is Flo Rida again...

The whole Hennessylicious assemble of local and international flava

When everything settled down (cameramen and women.. especially TRIGGER HAPPY CoolerFuzz), Managing Director of Riche Monde, Mr. Frederic Noyere gave his opening speech

Then the floor was opened for the Q&A Session with the artiste

For the bloggers, besides pestering them with questions and small talk, CoolerFuzz eventually did some good for a change.

CoolerFuzz: Flo Rida, upon touching down in Malaysia, what were your first impressions and what are you expecting on the night of the event?

(Not accurate quote)
Flo Rida: I love Asia and its people. The scene here is good. Support for my music. Wana perform well for the crowd here...

and then when the Q&A Session ended, this gentleman came along...

To be continued....

Because it's too long...

CoolerFuzz here reporting (as always) for CoolerClubbers News

HENNESSY ARTISTRY SETS THE STAGE A BLAZE WITH A STAR-STUDDED LINE-UP, PRESENTING FLO RIDA, MACHI, DJ LATIN PRINCE, POP SHUVIT & VJ CALLEN

Kuala Lumpur, 18 July 2008 – Hennessy Artistry ‘The Global Art of Mixing’ returns with a superb on-set and a line-up of artistes that has got the whole of Kuala Lumpur talking. Launching the HALO event happening in Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena on Saturday, 19th July 2008.

Hennessy V.S.O.P held a press conference today to welcome the international and local stars at The Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Also making its debut for the first time ever, was Hennessy V.S.O.P’s latest world-city cocktail, Hennessy Kuala Lumpur.

Blogger's note
I was there. Got the invitation from GCI via Jien. Also there were fellow Nuffnangers Jason Lee, Wetwetwater, Bobby, Jamie, and Jason Ooi. See you guys later.

Met a ex-UTARian coursemate, Jojo who works with the PR company (I'm still Mandarin illiterate and jobless, dang...)

The event started off with each artistes rolling onto stage with a special welcome note to the fans in Malaysia. Filled with anticipation, each performer noted their excitement to be performing at one of Malaysia’s best clubbing events – Hennessy Artistry ‘The Global Art of Mixing’.

Set to be, possibly the biggest clubbing event of the year, music lovers will be treated to a top-notch show with stellar performances from local favourites, Pop Shuvit and VJ Callen along with Taiwanese hip-hop maestros’, Machi, club hit connoisseur, DJ Latin Prince and US Chart topper, Flo Rida.

Blogger's note
Hmmm... "Set to be, possibly the biggest clubbing event of the year"??? let's rephrase, biggest HIP HOP clubbing event of the year. That's more accurate. The array of top notch performers deserves a Cooler THUMBS UP. I am gonna Get Low and Crunk-out tonight!

Commenting at the press conference, Managing Director of Riche Monde, Mr. Frederic Noyere stated, “We are all really looking forward to tomorrow’s event. The Hennessy Artistry events take place all over the world in the most chic and trend-setting cities and I’m very proud to have Kuala Lumpur as part of that ensemble.”

“With a line-up of artistes like Flo Rida, Machi, DJ Latin Prince, Pop Shuvit and VJ Callen, the Hennessy experience truly offers club enthusiasts a unique experience. It begins from the time you receive the invite right up to the club atmosphere, the combination of music, and of course, no event is complete without our rich blend of cocktails. We are expecting a great party on Saturday night and I’m sure it will be an impressive event for even the most frequent clubbers in town,” added Mr. Noyere.

Blogger's note again
Mr. Frederic Noyere... I'm proud too. KLites deserve this treatment after all we've been trough recently.

"From the time you receive the invite right up to the club atmosphere, the combination of music, and of course, no event is complete without our rich blend of cocktails." This is kind of true. Well execution of publicity and hype is one of the events success components.

Especially the invites part. Tonnes of hype was generated about 'how to be invited'. The exclusivity though, to me, is a double-edged-sword. Yes, the who's who will be there (plus some extras like myself) but I believe in openness.

Even though it's a brand exposure campaign and only those truly interested or in the business should get the invitation, but when claimed to be "biggest HIP HOP clubbing event of the year" it should be open to public or at least fellow hip hop fans alike. Then again... that would diminish its purpose.

So, it's A-OK! (professionally la)

Guests were treated to a first hand taste at the latest cocktail specially prepared by Hennessy’s cocktail specialist, Mr. Sam Jeveons, who showcased a live demonstration of how to make Hennessy Kuala Lumpur. The delicious drink, which features a tropical blend of lime juice and pineapple juice with a generous helping of Hennessy V.S.O.P cognac, carries a blend of tropical flavours which reflects the refreshing blend of cultures in our city.

Blogger's note again? (Last one, I promise)
I love my cognacs. So i'm going to give you a spoiler for the event tomorrow.

The NEW Hennessy Kuala Lumpur

This cocktail? To me is... quite good.

For local cocktail lovers, THEY SHOULD LOVE IT. It's smooth, fraigrant, multiple-layers of flavours and a lingering after-taste.

The juices blend well. To my young-untrained palate, the Grand Marnier (good liqueur) and the bitters masked it too much. But other than that, it's a good concoction of a cocktail.

Masking the PRICY Hennessy it's not my cup of tea though. At the end of the press con, I requested for one ON THE ROCKS (like an uncle) from the good barmen.

As much as I wana be patriotic, I still prefer Shanghai/Miami.

In total, Hennessy has produced 6 speciality 'city-based' cocktails... the Hennessy New York, Hennessy Shanghai, Hennessy Paris and Hennessy Miami plus the latest one Hennessy Kuala Lumpur.

Another reason why I LOVE MY COUNTRY. Malaysian Boleh!

The Hennessy Artistry ‘The Global Art of Mixing’ event on Saturday, 19 July 2008 (TODAY!) in Bukit Kiara is expected to be the brand’s biggest event of the year. A not-to-be-missed affair, the show is set to make waves in our local club scene with its impressive line-up of performers and the latest Hennessy cocktail Kuala Lumpur.

For more information (information only, NO MORE INVITATIONS, but you can register yourselves as a Hennessy Artistry member for future events update), check out Hennessy Artistry’s website - www.hennessyartistry.com.my

- End of The Beginning-

To be continued.

Stay tune for when COOLERFUZZ GONE NIKON TRIGGER HAPPY in the second part of this post.

Future event (NEW) ~ July is going to murder us at the MAA awards... but we die a happy MTV death this 19 July 2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

I survived both the Hennessy Artistry pre-event press conference @ KL Hilton and Onitzuka Tiger Electric Night @ Zouk KL yesterday (18/07/2008).

I want to faint... but... got to wake up and dress up gangsta cause Hennessy Artistry @ Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena TONIGHT!

My kidneys and lungs are crying for help.

So I'm going to lighten up my body and mind with a preview on this next event. It has part sponsored event seriousness and part comical relief.

If you didn't not get those invitations to the Hennessy event later, you MUST head up to Zouk KL for...

MTV Asia Awards Mosh Pit Audition & Voting Party @ Zouk KL, 19/07/2008

First event of the night...

MTV Asia Awards Mosh Pit Audition

What
Audition to be in the MTV Asia Awards mosh pit

When
19 July 2008 (Saturday), 6pm – 8pm

Where
Zouk Club, KL

How
No cover. Enter only for audition or to support. Read the following to see if you're eligible to attend this first event.

What is MTV mosh pit ?
As a Mosh Pitter, you’ll get front row access to hosts Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars and Hong Kong screen siren Karen Mok.

Plus, the best view of live performances by Pussycat Dolls (aaahhh...), The Click Five, Panic at the Disco, Super Junior, Jabbawockeez, Leona Lewis, OneRepublic and The Script.

The auditioners does have SOME (funny... choosy... trend-based... ??? take your pick. I go with funny) requirements. They stated...

Head down to the Mosh Pit audition at Zouk KL on July 19 at 6pm if you think you are:

  • Young and energetic
(young at heart and work out at the gym? NOPE. You look like a mom/dad, you're out)

  • The world’s biggest music fan
(POP music fan??? Cause I don't think jazz/world music lovers are welcomed)

  • Most stylish dresser
(ah-ha! No lala lilu lili etc. Branded clothes required)

  • The dancer with the slickest moves
(3 groups... HOT DANCING GIRLS, HOT DANCING GIRLS, HOT DANCING GIRLS... maybe some shufflers and B-Boys)

  • Equipped with a strong pair of lungs
(NO smoking at the actual Mosh Pit... maybe during breaks)

The list of REQUIREMENTS goes on. They add...

Do get to the audition early to avoid disappointment. MTV will only select 300 lucky mosh pitters. The audition is open to Malaysian residents aged 15 and above (barely legal age group???).

Improve your chance of being selected
1) Dress well – clubbing casual, sexy and stylish.
2) Be a camera slut. Smile. Always.
3) Scream. Don’t whisper.
4) Be pleasant. Know how to share the floor space.

Hmmm... rather MTV generation-like selection requirements.

Expect hordes of KIDS to show up.

WARNING. If you feel uncomfortable round kids in a club... hmmm... no choice.

Then when the hoo-hah is over with, you can stay and party on with the good stuff

MTV Asia Awards Voting Party

What
Mosh pit hoo-hah ends, real event begins

When
19 July 2008 (Saturday), 9pm – 11pm

Where
Zouk Club, KL

Who
Performing acts for the night will be One Buck Short (Malaysia's best) and Bitter Sweet

How
Got to stay on from the previous event. I could be wrong but I don't think they accept uninvited guest from 9pm onwards as I saw somewhere 'Invited Guest only'. Get your hand stamps ok. No cover till 11pm. After 11pm is RM 35 (men)/RM 30 (ladies) incl. 1 drink.

Why attend this event?
Good performance by local bands, a chance to meet local celebs and

So party on party people. Doesn't mean that I have no interest or I did not get the invites or even GO to the event that I would not cover it.

All sponsored events shall be treated equally... hmmm... on second thought, maybe NOT.

When you're in an event buffet (like July 2008), always choose the best, most expensive and most gratifying. But if you have to ala carte, then all is fair game

Have fun cooler clubbers of Malaysia.

Need to rest now.

Hennessy Artistry is back with ANOTHER party this month.

As if we have LESS sponsored parties for the month, the kind and generous (and also very competitive) people at Hennessy Artistry decided to trash all the norms of having quarterly or occasional installations of their sponsored events and decided to add ONE more to our list of...

'July is going to murder us... but we die a happy death' sponsored events...

the month after the last one.

What was the last Hennessy Artistry event like? Check it out HERE

I posted this event's preview last 16 June 2008.

Back then, maybe I myself wasn't clear of the HYPE and IMPACT this event would bring to those eagerly waiting for their invitation (or looking aimlessly for one).

Up until I found out that the event came with the same BENEFITS cum ESSENTIAL ATTRACTIONS as the last one.

This time around...

they BRING OUT THE BIG GUNS,

invite selective amounts of guest (PRIVATE PARTY),

chuck 'em all away at a PRIVATE LOCATION (it's not even a club) and

practically set up fountains (in my head la) of sponsored non-stop Hennessy cocktails all night long.

non-stop Hennessy cocktails all night long.
non-stop Hennessy cocktails all night long.
non-stop Hennessy cocktails all night long.
non-stop Hennessy cocktails all night long.
non-stop Hennessy cocktails all night long.

*me stuttering*

Plus, thanks to GCI and Hennessy, I will be attending this event's pre-event Press Conference at KL Hilton, TODAY (18/07/2008). Will post it asap.

The Cooler Experience is happy to support and present to you (again!)...

presents...

Hennessy Artistry presents Flo Rida, Machi, DJ Latin Prince, Pop Shuvit and VJ Callen @ Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena, 19/07/08

WHAT - Hennessy Artistry 2008 (July '08 Session)

WHERE - Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena

WHEN - 19 July 2008 (Sat)

WHO - Superb line-up of Hip Hop artist

HOW - Exclusive Invites via Online RSVP

WHY attend?
Besides the superb line-up of performers and plenty of good 'motivation' available at the sizable indoor venue, only who's who will be invited. Hennessy Artistry website members have to RSVP to get invites.

Anyways... we thought they could not have possibly topped the last party, May 31st at Aloha Club. Check it out HERE as the CoolerClubbers was there (and created something for the people to stare at...)

The performers are some of the coolest line up up-to-date for a sponsored event. What performers a.k.a BIG GUNS you ask...

From the United States of Uh! Merry ka...

With his 2007 must dance single "Low" feat. T-Pain

Sing this...

Shawty had them Apple Bottom Jeans [Jeans]
Boots with the fur [With the fur]
The whole club was lookin at her
She hit the flo [She hit the flo]
Next thing you know
Shawty got low low low low low low low low

FLO RIDA!!!

Better than Taiwanese Bubble Milk Tea made locally...

Taiwanese music moguls and Asian Hip Hop giant... MACHI

The man from the infamous Bum Squad DJz's...

DJ LATIN PRINCE

Local globetrotting rock icons...

Asia's finest... POP SHUVIT

and

VJ Callen creating visual designs

What else can I say within this event's two event preview post... Nothing much. All I can do it just attend, be thoroughly entertained and party CoolerClub style.

July still has 3 events after this to give us the FINAL BLOW.

LapSap's Birthday Bash, Power of Nature and Paul van Dyk.

Crazyyy month... maybe the best month of sponsored events up-to-date? July 2008 does has 13 sponsored events. Maybe...

What do you think?

What else... Nope, that's bout it. No point in me promoting anymore before the event. The best promotion is done by attending the party and reviewing it.

So I see you at the Hennessy Artistry July Party tomorrow (19/07/08).

Event first, blog later (and passed-out in style)

Chiowz.

July's '08 Aftermath ~ Tuborg pres. Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy, KL 04/07/2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Wuzzzuppp...

This month has been a real shocker to my system as we had a MASSIVE-load of sponsored events around town.

And sponsored events are not or do not come as often as your average club events.

Cause when a company or an organization decides to have a sponsored event, they mean business (literally).

Let's get on with the first sponsored event review from our "July is going to murder us... but we die a happy death" series

A splendid blend of performers from popular club genres like indie rock, electro, house and hip hop. Good job JUICE mag for constantly coming up with fresh party themes.

Hosted by Joey G, the night's performers are:

Main room:
Twilight Actiongirl - best electro DJs around town
One Buck Short - need no introduction.
DJ Fuzz with MC Philly Roca (K-Town Clan) - Should be GREAT!
Vice Modern Disco - we'll see how, no comment

VIP room:
Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! featuring Blonde & Raksaksa - indie rockers
DJ Gabriel

Plus
Adidas Originals fashion show with styling by ILLKIDD

What is JUICE magazine (by Catcha Corp)?

The big kahuna of entertaintment/nightlife/lifestyle guide magazine and a FREE publication (advertising pays the bills mate, you think its FREE for fun).

JUICE magazine was first launched in Singapore back in 1998 and arrive at our shores sometime around June/July 2003. The mag also spread its wings to Indonesia (2005) and later to Hong Kong (2006).

Dubbed as the leading nightlife and street culture mag in the region (and certainly in Malaysia), you will only see the good stuff of what this side of the world has to offer may it be news, trends, reviews, promos etc.

Hmmm... Juicy...

Another thing which I enjoy looking at while browsing the mag is the

(LINE)

Only thing not so Juicy is the coverage/circulation.

Unless you look for it at the right establishments (in whih some provide you with your own copy of the month's issue and some don't), it's not as FREELY available as it is FREE.

You need to know where to look. Or if you like it sooo much, just subscribe. But I'm sure you will miss some happenings early in the month due to the shipping time.

Other than that, it's a Cooler A-OK!

I'm only in my 4-5th lesson, so chat up with me in a couple of months. I am sure to be Hàn yǔ literate by then or at least I'll understand.

But I will still inform you guys of the latest happenings and parties around town. Why? Because I CARE...

July is still killing me... killing most of us CoolerClubbers. Some a cowering at home, afraid of the DEADLY effects of July's event. Scaaary...

4 events/parties has passed and 4-5 more to go. That's not including the other EXTRA events/parties which came up and added the FUN-BURDEN-OBLIGATION to our shoulders.

Before I go further on let me indulge you in some latest CoolerClub news.

1. My New Toy/ bloggin' equipment.

Nikon D50 dSLR. Older model. Inherited it. Really thankful to have it. Downside... its for events without heavy 'MOTIVATION'. Cause can't get 'MOTIVATED' and manage the dSLR. Dang...

2. CoolerClubber (not all) has received and will receive CONFIRMED invitation to these awesome parties

FYI, some are 'SPONSORED'-FLOW of 'Motivation' type parties... heaven...

CoolerClub ~ 4 years and still going...

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

I'm HUNG OVERRRRR...

Celebrated my 4th anniversary with the other half last night at a lounge bar introduction party.

Clique Lounge Bar presents Intro @ Clique, Piccolo Hotel.

We were thoroughly 'motivated' even though the buffet-styled cocktails was a turn off. Ate tapas and mozzikis like nobody's business. Met a local celebrity and 'motivated'ly tried to guest how many stars in a glass box in order to win a 'sponsored' bottle of Famous Groose.

Thanks to Edmund and Shereena for celebrating with us. Will post bout it shortly. Along with these other very, VERY late posts on past event attended

  • 2nd part of our Urbanscapes journey (HERE for 1st part)
  • Juice 6th Anniversary (VVIP experience) and,
  • Ruums 2nd Anniversary (mixed emotions galore)
Now let's move on to some Cooler Ramblings

Met some of my old mates, ex-dangerous-clubbing buddies some time last week.

Had a chat. They were still doing their thing and I introduced them to my 'thing' , sponsored events. Told them bout CoolerClub and the whole July shindig.

The conversation went something like this...

Old friend said.

"What's up with the 'sponsored' events thing... I party with my buddies every weekend, what's the big deal bout this month?"

and he added...

"Pity you guys, maybe not yet reach the clubbing-kaki level".

My reply was...

"Dude, you PAY to party. And when you PAY, you can do it as MANY times as your wallet allows you to"

Then, I kinda did a bit of ceramah (gave them a sermon/speech) to anchor my point.

"We events clubbers are SEASONAL CLUBBERS. We've been there, done that before. Partied on REGULAR club nights. The works..."

"You know I have personally have done some bar/club hopping back in the days with you guys. And I DID NOT LIKE IT!"

"Was broke all the time. Besides drowning myself in booze and dance, we didn't do anything much. Didn't get anything much. No gratification"

I also gave them a very displeasing example...

"Something like going out for yam cha (hanging out at mamak/food stalls)"

As usual, being me, I hit that baby for a HOME RUN...

"But nothing... and I mean NOTHING can replace the sheer excitement, sense of mystery and intrigued, the high entertainment value and an all OUT-OF-THE-ORDINARY experience of going to EVENTS"

Aaahhh... *sigh*

OK, I did not say it like I did for the HOME RUN thing, but it was close.

I love events man...

and nothing I have experienced so far can give me that sense of serene gratification. That sense of purposefulness.

Ever since there was a sudden surge in sponsors and their 'sponsored' parties/events due to the ever increasing business competitiveness and lee-ways in certain important legislation, the 'sponsored events' scene has grown tremendously.

It was the reason why myself and Brian (co-founder) founded this social club called CoolerClub.

Strangers and friends bound together by sheer interest and love for 'sponsored' events and EDM music.

Seasonal and event-oriented clubbers who break cultural and traditional norm to move together and create unforgettable (and sometimes) crazy PARTY moments unthinkable via any normal means.

I remember an event back in 2006 where we had 20+ people joining us at a party because they were into this CoolerClub thing.

I also remember the amount of stuff won by certain members of CoolerClub which reaches THOUSANDS of ringgit just because they were quick and diligent in entering contest/games by sponsors.

I will always remember all of the strangers and friends who have made all CoolerClub experiences...

THE COOLER EXPERIENCE

for all the GOOD and the bad...

IT'S THE 4th YEAR of COOLERCLUB!

4 years and still going strong

2005-2008 was and still is a crazy ride. Come November, we will celebrate our anniversary CoolerClub style.

I wish everyone...May we work hard, be successful in most of our endeavours and escape our weekly busy lives occasionally to PARTY like there is no tomorrow.

See you guys soon!

Check out the photo compilation slideshow created to celebrate "3 YEARS OF COOLERCLUB" which was screened last year at our first official CoolerClub house party cum Dandelion's 21st birthday.

Enjoy.

Remembering COOLERCLUB 2005-2007 @ Dahlia's 21st Birthday

PS - lost alot of pictures when my PC crashed late 2005. So I have to start all over with what I had. Don't mind the Benny Bernassi compilation, back in the days Benny Bernassi tunes was the IN thing. I kinda still like em till today.

Future event ~ July is going to murder us... but we die a happy death this 25th July 2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

There is nothing, NOTHING more appealing than to hear/see this

REFRESHMENTS WILL FLOW AS FREELY AS THE MUSIC

Aaahhh *wept*

A day before the hopefully superb, Paul van Dyk party (check it out HERE), there will be another party. In this party is where you'll find those exact words.

RedSessions presents POWER OF NATURE Party @ Heritage Mansion, AHR. 25/07/2008 (Friday)

with back-to-back parties like this is why, July is going to murder our seasonal partying asses. Check this out.

Party info (FOCUS on the words at the bottom)

Those words are harmony to my ears. So far this is the 2nd or 3rd time any party had this type of catch phrase. Lager? Hope not. But I'm not picky.

What you need to do to get yourself in the party

Donate some personal information... well, gotta give some to get some. Honestly, they don't spam. Only receive party info a week/two before event. So don't worry.

I'm sure you know bout Heritage Mansion at Asian Heritage Row. Sizable, can easily fit a few hundred people at a time (<250).

For this event, RedSessions has acquired some of Malaysia's finest DJs. With 3 rooms/areas guest can choose their musical inclinations.

First room is the CYCLONE 'Power to relax' room, for HOUSE music lovers (like me), Tempo events and REGENRATE shi fu DJ Eugene will take you home.

Next room, INFERNO 'Power to party'. DJs Gabriel (another shi fu), Joey G (famoustest) and 'DJs Are Not Rockstars' will give you that power you need to party the night away.

Last but never least, for you Electroclash generation, WAVE "power to unwind' room. With DJ RaySoo (another experienced DJ) clashing genres to entertain and loosen your knots.

Visit their SITE to register and to check the DJs out.

What can I say more? I would be thoroughly entertained (I'm sure) if I get those invites. If not then, haaaaaaa, dang...

So keep on partyin' and again, July 2008 is the best murderer so far.

Chiowz!

Future event ~ July is going to murder us... be we die a happy death this 18th July 2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Another one of our "July is going to muder us... but we die a happy death" party series of this crazy month of July. Also another party which the CoolerClubbers will be attending and hopefully enjoying.

Let's intro this party...

Do you consider yourself as a "Style Urbanists"?

Do you constantly look out for the latest, LATEST street wear that suites your lifestyle. Or maybe just that one-off design which has your name on it?

Does this describe you

  • "I do not wear clothes pictured in studios"
  • "I am apart of the global youth culture"
  • "I am urban, fast-moving and trend has to keep up with my taste and style"
  • "My brain operates fashionably with multiple simultaneous highly diverse fashion movements at any given time"
  • "Mainstream fashion OUT, my fashion IN"

Than my friend, you are hooked to the STREET FASHION MOVEMENT. And I believe that once you're hooked, your life will forever change...

(Oh, don't be so dramatic. Hehehe)

There are no shortage of street fashion in Malaysia.

From local designers creating one-off apparels, to fashion blogs and "coolhunters", to local street wear bazaars and flea markets, to youths who mix and match everything and I mean EVERYTHING, so that they are in-trend to appear out-trend...

Do you get me? Neither do I. But apparently, you're IN because you're OUT. Meaning you are "in" the culture because you say no to mainstream brands etc.

As most of your toady's' global street culture and fashion are inspired by those kinky crazy Japanese...

so it's only appropriate that I DON'T feature the Urban Fashionist must have apparel from Japan but instead a PARTY which celebrates the introduction of such a brand to would-be local enthusiast

What is Onitsuka Tiger by Asics?

ASICS (株式会社アシックス, Kabushiki-gaisha Ashikkusu?) is an athletic equipment company that started in 1949 when Kihachiro Onitsuka began manufacturing sports shoes at his home in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

Asics produces shoes designed for football, running, tennis, martial arts, cricket, golf, wrestling, track & field, cross-training, volleyball, cheerleading, lacrosse, and for many other sports.

Initially the company was known as Onitsuka Tiger, and was famous for their Mexico 66line of shoes and their distinctive stripes.

In 1977, Onitsuka Tiger merged with GTO and JELENK to form ASICS Corporation. Despite the name change, a vintage range of Asics shoes are still produced and sold internationally under the Onitsuka Tiger label.

The name of the company "ASICS" is an acronym of the Latin phrase "anima sana in corpore sano" which translates to "a sound mind in a sound body".Since 2007 there has been a larger emphasis placed on this acronym.

In 2001, ASICS America Corporation quietly resurrected the Onitsuka Tiger™ brand with original models of Onitsuka shoes and Onitsuka clothing updated in today's flavorful colors.

Over the past few years, the Onitsuka Tiger™ brand has been enjoying a growing number of new, dedicated shoe followers along with a steady desire for Onitsuka clothing and Onitsuka bags.

Onitsuka Tiger embraces its true Japanese heritage, and fuses it with contemporary design to create cult footwear, accessories and apparel. Maintaining this strong ‘Made of Japan’ philosophy, the fully integrated global campaign portrays the company’s Japanese heritage, and its attitude to modern-day Japan, in an inspired and imaginative way.

Onitsuka Tiger™ is a growing and highly sought after brand. There are more Onitsuka Tiger™ mens’s and Onitsuka Tiger™ women’s models just sitting in the ASICS® vault waiting to be re-released.

The future is what this retro brand has to look forward to. Because ASICS® knows that there are people out there who don't need to run fast...they just want to look good.

See ya.

Event first, blog later.

Chiowz.

Cool Info

Jump-Up is a subgenre of jungle and drum and bass that was popular with fans of drum and bass in the mid 1990s and was designed to be played in mainstream nightclubs to get a crowd to "jump up" and dance. It is usually characterized by basslines that have a pitch bending LFO on them which gives the sub-bass a "wobble" sound accompanied by uptempo drum loops.

Most frequently in modern Jump-Up, an element of highly energetic "rave stabs" are often heard. While some critics dismissively conclude that this subgenre of DNB is more accessible to casual listeners with the disposable fanbase mostly consisting of young ravers that listen to the subgenre for anywhere between 2-3 years.

Jump up is actually more closely related to the more popular 1996-1997 era of jungle-drum&bass, known for its 'warmth' through notable beat and melody syncopation and cleaner, simpler sounding heavy basslines (as opposed to the lighter weight, more distorted basslines of the colder, more precise sounding techier styles of Neurofunk & Techstep coming out around this time).

Older examples include DJ Zinc's Super Sharp Shooter or his remix of the Fugees' Ready Or Not (known at the time as Fugees or Not), which also samples Redman on the original version of his first collaboration with Method Man, How High. Extensive use of hiphop samples was common in jumpup in the late 90's.

I know who Mocca is, some CoolerClubbers also knows who Mocca is.

But if you don't, check 'em out here and I assure you, ASSURE YOU... that its worth checking em out.

Older stuff, my favourites

Mocca - Me and My Boyfriend

Mocca - My Secret Admirer

Their latest offering

Mocca - The Best Thing In The World

MOCCA's Bio

The story began when : — Arina (vocal and flute), Riko (guitar), Toma (bass) and Indra (drum)– got together in a college band. After a year of struggling with the boredom of performing other people’s music, they decided to write their own songs.

In 1997 they composed four songs, unfortunately, those songs weren’t well accepted by the other members of the band. After caught up in conflicts and tons of disagreements, the band decided to split up leaving Arina and Riko mystified with their deserted materials.

“From waltz and bossanova to ’70s disco and rock, each song (written in English) has a different beat determined by the girl’s mood. When playing live, MOCCA is supported by six additional players on keyboards, guitar, percussion, trumpet, trombone and sax.”

Their debut album “My Diary” contains 13 songs written from a girl’s point of view and her diary entries. The album starts with a Once Upon A Time and is followed by a song telling of a first encounter with her Secret Admirer. Then after much hesitation in Twist Me Around, she decides to go steady with the boy in Me & My Boyfriend. In Telephone they break up, understanding that When the Moonlight Shines, they just weren’t meant for each other and thus, Rain Will Fall, Life Keeps On Turning.

Better than Maliq & The Essentials? Could be. They are in their own league. The voice, the music. I feel giddy and HAPPY...

Cool Info
Their latest album "Colours" is sold in Indonesia for Rp 50, 000. My lil sis bought it for me. She gets cool indo music/stuff when she's there.

Let's see...

1 Malaysian Ringgit = 2,814.96 Indonesian Rupiahs

So... Rp 50,000.00 = RM 17.80

Now, why can't we have that kind of pricing here...

We don't have enough market? Cost to expensive?

And they're not Indie (independent) band. Mainstream. They have songs specially made for movies. Something like Melly Goeslow.

Point to ponder mates...

Anyhow... Next featured artist will be one of our own. A sultry singer-song writer songstress in the same league with Amy Winehouse, Jack Johnson and the likes, who was discovered trough her vids on Youtube. Know who I'm talking about?

So stay tuned...

Chiowz.

PS - thanks to P.Dandelion who made this "Cool Finding". You the MAN... I mean, WOOMAN. Hehehe.

Future event ~ July is gonna murder us... but we die a happy death this 05/07/2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Nexttt...

on the list of this series, CoolerClub's "July is gonna murder us... but we die a happy death", we will preview on another exclusive by invitation only event.

Right after Tuborg presents Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy KL, 04/07/2008

as if our weekend could not get any better... we gained a place in the guest list to

Ruums KL 2nd Anniversary Celebration feat. DJ Ken Ishii

thanks to JK (John Kuan) of FoundationKL (FKL) who has given us an opportunity to attend this event (organized by his old event company).

  • What
    Ruums 2nd Anniversary

  • When
5th July 2008 (Saturday), 9-11pm Invited Guest/11 beyond open to public

  • Where
Ruums Bar & Club KL, Bangunan Life Centre, 1st and 2nd Floor, Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250 Kuala Lumpur

Never been to Ruums? Check it out Here)

  • How
Unless you were invited on the guest list, you can head down to the club to redeem your exclusive pass. So HURRY! If not possible, then come after 11 where normal cover charge applies

  • Why
Anniversary celebration, good music, exclusivity, meeting KL's who's who... hmmm... what else, oh ya, the free flow thing (I hope no one has to line up). I'm thirsty...

Ahhh, Ruums.

A delightful place to lounge (I love em swings), have a cocktail and just chill out and relax as you gaze upon the forever congested Jalan Sultan Ismail (the part before that busy cross-junction to KLCC/KLTOWER)

OR

you can RAVE/ROCK/R&B your brains out! as the venue has been a platform for hard style raving, death metal, some rock gigs, AKON and SEAN KINGSTON plus others which is too many to mention.

And also a Juice Anniversary back in 2006. CoolerClubbers remember Hats & Bananas? Funny...

OK... their website might be out-dated for the last 2 years and

OK... I also know that they stop sending out SMS notifications like a few months ago.

And unless you monitor or read (monitor is too serious of a word) your local nightlife info media, its kinda easy to have on and off memory of the club, especially when you're an event preview/review blogger *ehem*

The last time I wanted to visit them was when they had the RM 99 all you can DRINK and eat all night shindig. Kinda weird, but it was very, VERY enticing. Booze and Buffet. How can I refuse?

Nevertheless, Ruums Club KL endured and now will be celebrating its 2nd Anniversary this Saturday. Hoooray for Ruums!

Found out bout this event when Rumms management posted it up at MASH (check it out Here). It was an event promo, with enticing info, promising 'FUN' experience and 'sponsored' event opportunities.

What 'sponsored' event opportunities?
"ENDLESS SPONSORED BEVERAGES" for invited guest from 9-11pm. Located in the centre of the e-flyer/poster in a mentioning of their sponsor Bacardi Limon and Bacardi B-Live.

Bacardi cocktails flow like a river from 9-11pm? Mohjitos, Mai Tais, maybe a Havana side-car or a simple rum daiquiri or just any Bacardi concoction (Bacardi limon + Sprite/tonic). Sweeeeeet!

What it Bacardi B-Live?
......... oooppps, I'm not an advertiser (well, not yet *ehehehe*). What I can tell you is that they do what others do in the spirit of competition and business expansion in Malaysia/globally.

They promote lifestyle/culture/trend etc. trough sponsoring product/brand related events. As I have mentioned, its a 'taste', 'trend' and 'favor' war out there. Enough said.

For this event Ruums features DJ Ken Ishii (JAPAN)

Who is DJ Ken Ishii?
Ken Ishii (Japanese: ケンイシー) is a Japanese techno DJ and producer from Tokyo. He has released work under his own name as well as under the pseudonyms: FLR, Flare, UTU, Yoga, and Rising Sun.

One of the most innovative and experimental composers who have made a mark on the International dance scene. Ken Ishii started making his version techno at a time when Japan was not yet at the crossroads where all things techno came together.

Already putting out tracks on the cult label R&S since ’94, Ken’s sound soon broke out of the confines of a specialist audience and took the world by storm, receiving support from world class artists such as Dave Clarke, Luke Slater, Thomas Schumacher and many more.

Strongly influenced by Detroit techno, Ken Ishii had his first release on Richie Hawtin's label Plus 8. He composed the music for the opening ceremonies to the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. He provided a track for the 2001 video game Rez by Sega: Creation The State Of Art which is the music used in the third level of the normal game, as well as music for the game LSD. His track "Let It All Ride" has also been used in the PSP video game Lumines II.

He has since been touring Intensively throughout Europe, Asia and America. His forthcoming album-Future In Light- will have his take on the sound of Detroit, showing the world the new sound of Ken Ishii.

Came to Malaysia way back in 2004 for "Regenerate Japan GT featuring John "00" Flemming & Ken Ishii @ Espanda, KL 19/06/2004" (unfortunately no one reviewed the DJ or the event)

This DJ, he has some reasonably good stuff. I'm a House fella, so no comment. Check it out yourself.

Older stuff from DJ Ken Ishii (older, but still applicable today)

DJ Ken Ishii - Extra. Very cool Cyberpunk Animation.

Dj Ken Ishii - Game Over.

Latest music

Live set 2007 (best quality I could find)

DJ Ken Ishii mix

If the set on the night of Ruums 2nd Anniversary is something like the video above. I'm happy.

So get ready for two nights of great parties as we celebrate the weekend of ANNIVERSARIES GALORE with 'motivation' ME A'MORE and after that do we have MORE?

Yes, apparently we do...

So stay tune for the next "July is gonna murder us... but we die a happy death"

Chiowz!

Wuzzzuppp...

Will get back with the Urbanscapes shindig. 15 hours there is way too long to compress.

So let's move on to a better topic. The real good stuff. The jello to your mellow. The cream of serene. The...

JULY 2008 SPONSORED PARTIES!!!

And there are plentyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.....yyyyyyy.....yyyy....yy
*panting*

For this holiest of holy EVENTFUL month, all future event will be titled like the above

So heads up.

Lets begin with the first up coming event of the month.

Tuborg presents Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy KL, 04/07/2008

Intro on Juice (if you've been living else where on the globe or not)

JUICE Magazine (Catcha Corp.)

The big kahuna of entertainment/nightlife/lifestyle guide magazine and a FREE publication (advertising pays the bills mate, you think its FREE for fun. like your daily newspapers) which was first launched in Singapore back in 1998 and arrive at our shores sometime around 2003.

Quality photos, current news on trends and events, reasonably good writing and layout, the occasional pictures of CoolerClubbers *ehem...ehem* and plenty of product advertising and advertorials.

They also organize an established and reputable regional DJ Competition "Juice DJ Quest" and the occasional sponsored parties that lashes with the magazine's name and reputation.

Blogger's note

Being abit ANALytical here.

I personally love the mag's quirky and spunky self-intro/description (located at the editorial page). The one I managed to pull from my verrry messy and un-categorized stack reads

"JUICE is the free monthly publication of champions, cat lovers and the lonesomes. 100% owned by....."

Cute...

Hmmm... Juicy indeed... only thing is that the magazine's coverage/circulation is a bit exclusive. Unless requested, they only distribute to key establishments which is related to their scope. Starbucks, Coffee B., Radioactive, nightclubs etc.

How I wish that every month, one would *plopped!* at my doorstep. Aaaa... (wishful thinking are we. *ehem...ehem* kind people at Catcha... hehehe)

OK, lets get Juicier...and maybe a bit glam with a dash of Stars & Stripes

Tuborg presents Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy KL, 04/07/2008 (Friday)

Another themed night. STARS & STRIPES. and on the 4th of July. How Bollywoodly ironic.

(or "oh how American and patriotic" or maybe its Celebs and Jailbirds... up to your own interpretation)

Did a preview on this event.

Future event ~ Tuborg presents Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy, KL 04/07/2008 (link to preview)

What was the preview about:

  1. Themed parties are a hell of alot better than non-themed. You get to play dress-up (and probably ended up being weird rather than attractive)

  2. Tuborg lager + music = fun...fun...fun

  3. Juice Anniversaries comes with your array of good performers and activities

  4. Juice Anniversaries comes with SPONSORED passes. Only for the keen and willing. Better still, if you are a bit kiasu and come way early, you get some goodies (worth it eh? or am I just the kiasu fellow)

  5. Juice Anniversaries also come with some big name sponsors.

What kind of lager is Tuborg (the main sponsor)?
............. (ooops, I'm not an advertiser...well not yet *hehehe*)

Apart from what was said and the fact that we do enjoy our Juice Anniversaries, there was another BONUS to this event.

While you were watching the EURO finals or sleeping (for the I'm not a footie fan like the rest of you, so stop shouting GOAL at 3am, I need to sleep)

I was doing some media monitoring and stumbled upon this e-mail. For if I had been a normal person and slept (sweaty Europeans please), I would have missed this chance.

Tuborg was giving out 20, twenty, dua puluh, vingt, zwanzig, vinte, двадцать,

VIP PASSES. At 2am in the morning. Hmmm... minus all the bewildered footie fans, some insomniac clubbers and a bored event media monitor (yours truly), interested partyers had to be lucky to get it cause 20 is a very, VERY small window of a contest.

but...

I managed to get VIP passes for 2

P.Dandelion did to

So did Khvn van Buuren

CONFIRMATION

Let's say this together CoolerCLubbers

THANK YOU TUBORG!!! (see, some testimonial)

So if I haven't convince you enough with this post and the last one, that you should not miss this party... then...

I'm soooooooo sorry...

cause if you are THE MAN/WOMAN or you monitor events or you read (or love...optional) Juice magazine or visit our small event preview/review blog

You will be there.

So see you party animals at Poppy Garden/Passion, KL this 4th of July as we begin our 1st "July is gonna murder us... but we die a happy death" SPONSORED event.

Wuzzzuppp...

Right after the debacle of getting the Bangkok Job, I drowned my sorrows with 2 crazy weekend parties.

Coolerclubbers partied last 2 Saturdays (31 May and 6 June)at Hennessy Artistry @ Aloha Club KL (FreeeFlowwwMadnesss) and Cooler*JUNE'Baby Birthday Bash @ Fuzz's crib.

Reported the FreeFlowwwMadness and will put up the post bout the birthday soon.

Let's rojak your 4th of July to INDIE ROCK, ELECTRO, HOUSE, HIP HOP music to...

THE PARTY

Nice e-flyer/poster artwork, have to show it

Official E-Flyer

Besides being another Juice "Joyfully-Anticipated" Anniversary with prospects of an assured fun time and a hapening social occasion...

THE REASON TO GO IS

It's sponsored!

1st 200 (which includes the kiasu party animals a.k.a CoolerClub will be there) will get goodies and 2 Tuborg 'motivation'

Besides the obvious remunerations, we love to check out the pre-party state to meet people and just chill. I believe P.Dandelion knows some of the barmen or crew at Poppy. That should be interesting...

THE MASHED LINE UP

Themed parties would not be half as interesting if there was no costume or dresscode.

Gotta be STARRY or STRIPY for the night. I bet you that there will be some rocker or electro clash peeps who will wear the 'BEST' combination of both stars and stripes. Just wait and see.

To know a party, you gotta check the sponsors. People who make the party work.

Big names... should be interesting

So get ur dose of mashed up fun by getting the printed e-invitates at http://www.juiceonline.com/juicestarsandstripes/

After you give them some info bout yourself for their 'undisclosed database-filling purposes' (I don't mind), make sure to read the clause. Or you can read it here.

See you guys there!

Event first, blog later.

The reason why I was happy last 28th June (Part 1)

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Last 28th June 2008, what were you doing?

Were you working half/full day? Having classes? Sleeping (normal)? Sleeeeeeeping (due to Friday night outing/partying)? Watched a movie? Enjoyed theatre? Enjoyed some gig/concert? Ate some good food? Went shopping? Did something other people shouldn't know? Did something you wished yourself wouldn't know? Hmmm...

There was sooo many, many things you could have done on that day.

But IF you were at KLPAC...

But IF you were going for that event by KLue magazine (and affiliates)...

But if you were at that eye opening, ear revolving, heart wooing, mind feading, fashion stimulating, self discovering, talent showcasing, life enriching, fun inducing, heat-wallowing, wallet/purse burning, die-hard screaming, pleased clapping, joy sharing.......... *panting* *panting*

then my friends, you were at Urbanscapes 2008.

We were there

4 years of agonizing over "when is the next all-day creative arts festival?" since the LAST Urbanscapes (literally LAST as I sincerely thought there was no more of such a good thing)

and at Urbanscapes 2008, the 5 of us had a really...really good CREATIVE BUFFET.

Burppp...

Hehehe...

Don't mind the poetic/theatrical-wannabe attempt at introducing this event. But I was personally stuffed to the brim, belt loosen, ENO dranked.

Imagine being there for bout 15 hours (crazy P.Dandelion and CoolerFuzz).

What is Urbanscapes?

Urbanscapes is organised by KLue and is the first and only all-day “user-generated” creative arts festival. Urbanscapes aims to bring together communities and participants from the fields of music, arts, lifestyle, film under a single banner to showcase the best of the local scene.

Previous Urbanscapes events took place in 2002 (Grappa Soho) and 2004 (KL Sentral). Urbanscapes 2008 will feature involvement from KLue's sister publications Junk and Tongue In Chic. Junk will be hosting the music stages, while Tongue In Chic will be bringing some colour and fashion flair to our marketplace.

(Source: Urbanscapes website)

NOW, Lets recap on the items on top, the ones where I asked you what you did cause I'm not going to write you a book about the whole 15 hours. Lets simplify and turn this to an self-interview.

Were you working half/full day?
Nope. But the good people at KLue mag (and affiliates), the performers/artist/designers/ vendors and the KLPAC people who were still at their office during this event, ALL worked their arses off so that KLites (and the others who came from far...far away) can enjoy the best of what performing arts has to offer in our beloved nation.

Sleeeeeeeping (due to Friday night outing/partying)?
Nope. None of us went for the first night of the preview party at Euphoria by Ministry of Sound. So we were sleeping just to wake up and go for Urbanscapes (or go to class/office/treasure hunt before we came to Urbanscapes)

P.Dandelion and I arrived the earliest we could (at 11am but apparently not early enough) as she had to redeem her 'sponsored' ticket from KLue. I had mine ready to go as I got it from Urbanscapes Pre-Party at Zouk (read it Here).

P.Dandelion is ready to escape to another world

Joining us a bit later was Ollie, Edmund who was off treasure hunting in the depths of Berjaya Times Square, Sue who was working, and James who was glued at home till late afternoon.

"Sun is shining, the weather is sweet, yeah
Make you wanna move your dancing feet"

KLPAC (looks like a nice day for a walk under the sun)

Not really. It was $!@^%">! HOT. Plus there was no outdoor performances till round 3. I could not enjoy the bazaar atmosphere at the main KLPAC carpark (P.Dandelion insisted that I could...babe, the sunblock lotion wont reduce the heat). So we went indoors.

Point-to-ponder 1
Canopy walkways. Ok, its applicable for massive/well sponsored and funded events maybe. But just imagined if it rained... No what if it RAINEDDDDD. You get the picture.

Maybe they called in for some spiritual help like some footie teams. Just joking...

KLPAC's main foyer was transformed into a gallery+construction scaffolding with a huge polystyrene food box monster (with movable limbs) and plenty of artwork and visual display for gawking purposes by artlovers (even I was impressed, and I'm art-blind...like tone-deft, get it?)

Main gallery

We went pass the empty Pentas 2 downstairs (where XBox is) and headed straight to Pentas 1 upstairs. Which brings us to the next question.

Watched a movie?
Yes we did. Pentas 1 was made into a huge cinema and theatre placed (aptly named CINETHEATRE by the organizers). And we had a really good time doing it. Indie movies a the dogs bullocks, the shit, the x factor. We soaked in the messages of the indie movies screened that day like a sponge.

Movie buff and his protege

Movies watched (click title for movie info)

10 Tahun Sebelum Merdeka by Fahmi Reza (MUST WATCH, CAN YOUTUBE IT)
My Indie Rock Darling by Razaisyam Rashid (watched 1/4 way)
Flower In The Pocket by Liew Seng Tat (saw it at Astro, nice family-love movie. can learn how to swim)
Kurus by Woo Ming Jin (coming-of-age movie about weaker people and puppy love for hot Chinese teacher...mmmm, nerds can relate)
Ciplak by Khai M Bahar (need I say more)

Got to love Ciplak man

Things missed at the venue
Rather Peculiar Theatre presents: Rather Peculiar Improv & Some (AL)Ready-made Sketches
Aircon by Shanon Shah (Instant Café Theatre & FIRSTWorks)

Which leads us the next self-interview question

Enjoyed theatre?
Nope. None whatsoever. Wish we had. But we came back at 9ish for KL Poetry Slam by Dram Projects & Word Forward

Oh yea, there was some rather funky but artsy stuff at the top foyer during the whole shindig

TV Gallery : Shorts / documentary / experimental & music videos curated by Cinejam, Hello Motion & KLue

and also some people promoting stuff like 24 Hour KL photo project

and indie movies on ORIGINAL cd/dvd plus some surprisingly normal non-artistic bazaarish items like cheap perfume and souvenirs. Weird...

Also visited whenever possible (also when impossible to enter) was the packed-during-featured-musicians/singer song writers ACCOUSTIC LIVEHOUSE @ Indiecine.

I was there for this singer/song writer duo. They were there under the Open Mic Session from 1-4pm on the day.

As I was enjoying the good grassy-altoish voice of the male performer singing emo songs, I kinda kept thinking that this dude is someone I know with the same looks and name.

Joshua (right) and his "too-soft-speaking" partner, didn't get her name or the duo's name

Turns out to be true. The dude a.k.a Joshua was an ex-college theatre mate. I really...really, 'frog under the coconut shell' did not know this dude can sing. He greeted me and we had a short chat. First of many performers greeted and chatted.

When the clouds was helping to hide the sun from us, we went out and visited the bazaar area.

To be continued...
