Future event and info ~ New attractions coming... Cloth & Cleft, SohoKL and Club Quattro

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Wuzzzuppp

New clubs and potential party venues are sprouting up in sin city recently.

Already opened for business and having its series of soft launches is Ministry of Sound's Euphoria at Sunway Lagoon resort. It will be officially launched and party-ready this 2nd July.

On more Superclub in Malaysia to share the pie of the clubbing scene here. Now we have more choices. No longer our focus be directed towards centre-business district. It's to the suburbs now.

Other new locations soon to be sharing that pie are

1. Cloth & Clef @ Changkat Bukit Bintang

Cloth & Clef Soft Launch

Cloth & Clef over at Changkat is finally opening its doors for a soft launch Friday 27 June, 9pm. The new space will function as a music venue, boutique and art gallery. Drop by and enjoy some live performances, DJs and the stand up comedy might even have your sides splitting by the end of the night.

2. Soho KL Mont Kiara @ Solaris Mont Kiara

Soho KL Mont Kiara's Soft Launch
10:00AM - 28 Jun 2008

Soho KL turns into a carnival for its soft launch. Drop by the commercial lifestyle center and get involved with pottery classes, singer-songwriter sessions, comic workshops, dancers and more.

(source: KLue)

Blogger's note
It will be a whole-day carnival targetted for people around that area which are not whatsoever interested with the local artsy-fartsy affair at KLPAC (Urbanscapes) on the same day.

Good time to try out their attractions and offerings.

The best thing of all is the promo 'motivation' at two of its entertainment venue

CARLSBERG BEER @ RM 5 a mug

Mmmmmm....

Check it out here

3. Club Quattro @ Avenue K

We hear the people behind nightspot, Scarlet and Sanctuary are planning to open up a new club over at Avenue K called Quattro. It will have four rooms, themed after the four seasons (Spring Lounge, Summer Restaurant, Autumn Club and Winter Bar). That's all we know for now.

And they're giving away a trip for 2 to Japan on their Grand Opening Night. Check their website for details.

(source: KLue)

Blogger's note
I believe they bought over Bond; a club that appeared and dissappeared quietly in our nightlife scene. Maybe it's a good thing.

Also good is the potential seen in the venue. Four rooms? That should be plenty. Maybe big even.

Not many clubs around the Jalan P. Ramlee area. It's only that ONE Superclub, Zouk and one or two small hotel lounge.

Maybe Quattro is competition? You'll never know. Also coming is another club in between the big Public Bank and British Council on the same road.

Not sure what is is yet (is it a dance club/lounge/bar/Superclub?) but there is a mamak connected to it. NZ Curry House. Something like Passion/Poppy Garden.

Interesting...

Don't forget to register at Club Quattro's site to get a chance to be invited for their launch party

http://www.clubquattro.com/

That's bout it on new venues opening up. Stay tuned for Euphoria and Urbanscapes (and maybe SohoKL) as the CoolerClubbers go party mad with TOO MUCH EVENTS this weekend.

Crazy....

Event first, blog later ya'll.

Future event (Exclusive) - Preview party of Malaysia's new SUPERCLUB... Euphoria by Ministry of Sound @ Sunway Lagoon Resort 27 & 28 June 2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Wuzzzuppp,

This past few weeks have been a waiting game for myself and I'm sure for most of you as we waited for some good events, new clubs launches and invites to a couple of events around town.

MOSt importantly and MOSt definitely worth the wait as MOSt of us MOiSt over the thought of Ministry of Sound (MoS... hehehe) is coming to our shores for good.

Heard bout this bit of juicy info since late last year. It was further fueled by countless rumours on the local EDM info media and finally was confirmed when fellow CoolerClubber Ollie pointed out that some soon-to-be-opened Superclub called Euphoria is opening up in Sunway and they were looking for staff.

When they advertise in the local newspaper, I believe there was no mentioning of it as a franchise of MoS. Maybe for lettering and word-count purposes (important info only).

And from late 2007 till June this year, some of us EDM lovers have been waiting for those invites to party at their LATEST international endeavour, MoS franchise Euphoria by Ministry of Sound @ Sunway Lagoon Resort.

And last night, I received this e-mail

Hi there,

Congratulations, we would like to inform you that you're on "THE LIST". See you at the party on 27th & 28th June 2008.

*You will gain complimentary admission before 11.00pm only on the date indicated.

*Admission after 11.00pm is strictly with payment of a RM20 door charge per person.

Euphoria Team

It was a response from our prompt effort to gain access to the party when we saw the event e-flyer sent to pre-registered Euphoria online 'members' (because I sincerely thought that the online membership thing would amount to nothing more than getting the occasional spam)

*Cue enlightening I-found-heaven hymn* (haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....)

No more reading about the legendary parties on mags or on the net. No more imagining the MoS party from whatever you heard on the MoS compilation CDs.

It's time to REALLY party, real UK style...(in my heart, this is what I want to believe. In reality, I think it would be a localized version/downscaled version of any MoS club)

Plus in reality, an expanding Superclub's reputation is solely based on the amount of franchise (a.k.a business generated and maintained) of which the club has.

And sadly so far, excluding the MoS clubs in UK, most of their expansion has ended up in failure

  • MoS Bangkok; the first club outside the UK, is now closed (2002-2003)

  • MoS Taipei opened March 25, 2004 is now closed

  • MoS New Delhi, India opened on 9 February, 2007 is now closed

Tha's 3 failed attempts of 5 (excluding Euphoria). 3 OF 5!!! The ones which are left are the one in Egypt and the one in Singapore.

I'll just stop here. Don't want to crush my hopes and dreams. Let's be irrational for a change and leave the business-mindedness in the closet.

Cause a party is still a party and nothing will change that.

So see ya'll at the party and may the ministry bring us to new heights of Malaysian EDM movement.

Chiowz...

Ape itu Kerajaan Bunyi (Ministry of Sound) and why should we be bothered?

    A bit of history...

Ministry of Sound (MoS) is a nightclub in Elephant and Castle, Southwark, South London, officially opened on 21st September 1991.

British MoS initially set itself apart from other London nightclubs of the time with its location well away from London clubland, a NON-ALCOHOLIC BAR (serious???) with a 24 hour dance licence (crazy Brits) and the highly-acclaimed sound system; all features designed to attract an enthusiastic crowd of music lovers.

DJs mix live sets on Friday and Saturday each week. The MoS contains two dance floors as well as a Sony PlayStation room and Absolut chill bar.

Ministry of Sound was founded by James Palumbo, Humphrey Waterhouse and DJ Justin Berkmann. It is still largely owned and controlled by Jamie Palumbo, son of property developer Peter, Lord Palumbo. Since the club's opening, the MoS brand has been extended to a number of other areas. Profits from the brand put Palumbo on the Sunday Times Rich List 2004, with an estimated worth of £136m. (nice to be in the business)

The club's name and original logo are in the style of executive branches of UK government (such as the Ministry of Defence). The original logo was designed by Marc Woodhouse & Justin Berkman and was based on the portcullis and crown, the symbols of Westminster government.

The current logo is a redesign done as a collaboration from AMP, London who designed the general logo and Vincent Connare at Dalton Maag, London who designed the lettering and finalized the artwork for MOS logo completed in 2002.

    (source: Wiki la where else)

Apart from MoS parties held in various locations around the globe which are legendary and massive with huge crowds drawn in to great party venues and greater DJ line-up, the MoS brand has expanded with franchise clubs being opened in Asia, and club tours taking place worldwide.

MoS franchise clubs has opened (and closed) @

    • MoS Egypt (immensely successful MoS Beach Club)

    • MoS Bangkok; the first club outside the UK, is now closed (2002-2003)

    • MoS Taipei opened March 25, 2004 is now closed

    • MoS Singapore opened December 16, 2005

    • MoS New Delhi, India opened on 9 February, 2007 is now closed

    Soon to be opened...

  • Ministry of Sound Shanghai, China is due to open in 2008

  • Ministry of Sound Melbourne, Australia will open in 2010 (beachfront club)

      And MOSt importantly

Euphoria by Ministry of Sound in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is UP and RUNNING... NOW!

KLue presents Urbanscapes 2008 pre-party??? Yes it was... and we were ELECTRified @ Zouk KL, 21/06/08

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

Some things just passed my mind some times. What a humanly mind I have. I forgot to give a heads-up on this event.

And that mind was punished and shocked with some ELECTRO music as LAPSAP an DJ Inquisitive ELECtrified the CoolerClubbers last Saturday night at the Urbanscapes 2008 pre-party.

The 'bestest' thing in the world is that upon our compulsory early arrival at soon-to-be-more-competitive superclub, Zouk KL (as another superclub coming our way very, very,VERY soon and 2 more clubs opening up along the same row as Jalan Ampang)

we were alarmed as no one from Zouk apparently knows bout this party. Alarmed but still cool, we left for mamak and came back round 10ish only to discover that we were still early.

CoolerClubbers for the night includes Edmund, Ollie, Sue and myself as others were M.I.A.

We met some friendly people while waiting at the entrance of The Loft. Chatty art enthusiast Haniff, a bloke from UM and some one who studied in a college in front of my crib (silent fellow).

While we faced more waiting at the stairs, we met a usual face in Malaysian art scene spectatorship, this friendly bloke from UK. I think his name was John or Jean. Chit Chat Chit Chat... (we waited for some time as there were no mentioning of door-opening hour)

      Finally...

      Open...

      Sue got one

      Edmund too

      Ollie three

We all got one each. The bloke at the left-side is the UM fellow, I believe his name is Zed or Haz or sumtin. The other one on the right is his mate.

(To UM guy, if you're reading this, tell us your e-mail ok, for contacting purposes)

What we got is what's most important, the reason why most came to this party early.

Sponsored ticket to attend Urbanscapes 2008

If it's not clear in the pix, it states "Redeem your Urbanscape ticket with Blink/Xu at 1am!"

So we replied, "OK! We will be back at 1am!"

We left to chill at my crib.

Came back roun 12.45 to find the party has picked up and packed the small venue.

      Packed

Showing you how packed it was with some flash action

Honestly, the crowd was over capacitating the venue. The Loft is really meant to serve as a lounge. But do you think they cared... Do you think we cared? Nah...

      COZ WE CAME TO PARTY

      DJ Inquisitive

      The simplest yet bestest turntable

LAPSAP at the back moving the crowd

We missed them, 5ft and Xu. Dang. What to do. DJ Inquisitive raved the partiers with crowd-pleasing mixes ranging from indie electro to pop tunes mash-up.

The party was SMASHING. Who else was at the front facing the DJ and the crowd but the 4 of us.

      Music-driven-ecstasy

      COOLERCLUB!

We met with a fellow EDM blogger. If you know Adli Syahril, find him in this pix.

Nevermind, we found him for you

      AdliSyahril in sheer trance-mode

Left the party with smiles and a guarantee that the CoolerClubbers will attend KLue's Urbanscapes 2008 this 28th of June @ Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) to enjoy a fun-filled day filling our soul and mind with the finest artsy-fartsy affair Malaysia has to offer

      Thanks KLue!

      The ticket

By the way, no CoolerClub outing would be complete if we didn't get a souvenir from the event. Each of us managed to hassled the front-crowd and gotten the souvenir as LAPSAP was handing out DJ Inquisitive's cd.

      All smiles

Havoc on the Dance Floor by Inquisitive

Had a listen to the CD, not bad... this 2006-2007 Singapore DMC Champion obviously knows his turntablism and party rocking.

That's bout it for now. Still posting up future events for the month of July. Next month is not as dry as I initially thought. 2 new clubs opening, Juice Anniversary, a few underground EDM and plenty of sponsored parties coming our way.

      So stay tuned.

      Event first, blog later ya'll.

      Wuzzzuppp...

This is a follow up to discussions among myself and Khvn about PVD's gig a few weeks ago.

Forgotten bout it for a while (how could I...), and then when I remembered, decided to post it up.

Coming back to our shores... to fullfil the Malaysian EDM lover's thirst for his music...

      PAUL VAN DYK

Ok... ok, no local announcement bout this event yet by Zouk KL or anyone else.

Most of us essentric media monitors saw it from PVD's website

It's something like Tiesto's announcement to having a gig in Malaysia since late December '07 - January '08 on his website.

      So look at this

      Sweeeet...

Normally, our local nightlife/scenester media would not put it up yet or put it up as TBC for now. They will announce when official news via news release or media advisory is received from the organizer. I have yet to see it at my fav KLue and Juice websites.

      So wait patiently...

      See you soon PVD!

      Event first, blog later.

      Chiowz.

PS - Khvn... if its 60, then it would be 60 more ringgit worth of investment added to your life...to enrich you and make you happier. Unless you can get the free tix la. See you soon man.

      WHEN - 12th July 2008, 9pm onwards

WHERE - Bar Blonde (Asian Heritae Row, Jalan Doraisamy)

      WHY Attend?
Good old DnB music to burst your ear drumz, underground EDMish crowd (small and friendly) and FREE entry before 11pm.

DnB music huh... should be good. Personally I prefer Houz music but some good underground DnB should clear my eardrumz. So lets JUNGLE and JUMP-UP Liquid style at Bar Blonde!

If the rockers can say it, I can say it...

      SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL EDM SCENE!

      See ya.

      Event first, blog later.

      Chiowz.

      Cool Info

Jump-Up is a subgenre of jungle and drum and bass that was popular with fans of drum and bass in the mid 1990s and was designed to be played in mainstream nightclubs to get a crowd to "jump up" and dance. It is usually characterized by basslines that have a pitch bending LFO on them which gives the sub-bass a "wobble" sound accompanied by uptempo drum loops.

Most frequently in modern Jump-Up, an element of highly energetic "rave stabs" are often heard. While some critics dismissively conclude that this subgenre of DNB is more accessible to casual listeners with the disposable fanbase mostly consisting of young ravers that listen to the subgenre for anywhere between 2-3 years.

Jump up is actually more closely related to the more popular 1996-1997 era of jungle-drum&bass, known for its 'warmth' through notable beat and melody syncopation and cleaner, simpler sounding heavy basslines (as opposed to the lighter weight, more distorted basslines of the colder, more precise sounding techier styles of Neurofunk & Techstep coming out around this time).

Older examples include DJ Zinc's Super Sharp Shooter or his remix of the Fugees' Ready Or Not (known at the time as Fugees or Not), which also samples Redman on the original version of his first collaboration with Method Man, How High. Extensive use of hiphop samples was common in jumpup in the late 90's.

      and

      VJ Callen

Enough with me drooling over the line up.

Many of my EDM buddies including CoolerClub have always been mystified on why me, a clubber/raver a.k.a EDMhead would be thoroughly enjoying and dancing to Hip Hop songs. Some of my clubbing kakis would avoid events of this genre.

FYI, before I was an 'EDM head', I loved hip hop and RnB to the bones. And I still do till today. The music of the American-Africans was my staple and what led to my self-discovery to singing. I sang 'em RnB tunes everywhere, everytime.

The love for this genre led me to my choirboy days in matriculation, college and becoming the finalist for my uni's Idol-like singing competition.

Most importantly it paved the way to my first singing gig/job with a singing studio in Ampang where I did like two projects under the S.P.A.W. (Shades Performing Arts Workshop) name back in '05-'06.

And most recently, singing "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley while doing some impromptu body percussions banked me a place with the Philharmonic Society of Selangor during their past 2007 project called 'Circle Song' which was performed at Annexe and Actors Studio Bangsar.

      JUNE CoolerBaby Birthday Bash '08 @ CoolerFuzz's Crib, 07/06/08

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

      Wuzzzuppp

This past few weeks have been a bit crazy with job hunting for me. The faster I work, the faster I get my own apartment/room and the faster I can conduct my wacky and funktastic houz parties.

But before that dream can manifest, I had to have one at my home.

HOME = less cost and also less fun cause we have to keep the party animals inside of us in control.

Maybe should have more parties at hotel room/ service apartments. We trashed the room we had our March CoolerBabies Birthday Bash '08 @ Sri Chempaka Service Suites past march.

Then we planned to have a April CoolerBaby for Peter but he declined (booo). Fortunately, we had our May CoolerBaby Birthday Bash on the same day as Tiesto!!! (read our 2 Days of Freedom post)

Back to the home thing... CoolerClub presents

      JUNE COOLERBABY BIRTHDAY BASH!

and the baby celebrated was myself...

(kinda awkward to post bout my birthday. I promise not to glorify)

Let's preview of what lies ahead.

Isn't this a sight for sore eyes

      Aaaahhhh...

We had the party at my crib and my parents was gracious enough to go back to my other home for the weekend and left us without any parental supervision. As if we needed any. * muahahaha* (eeevil laugh)

It was a very quaint and homely BBQ party (you wish!).

      Dandelion on the grill

      The boys turn

When all the CoolerClubbers have arrived we started the USUAL birthday procession

      Candle lit and...

Give a speech, sing that song, make a wish...

      BUTCHER THE CAKE!

      Die you yummy cake...DIE!!!

Slash the cake (now this kinda seems too non-birthday like with the butchering and slashing)

The lovely beginning to what could have started a food fight and cake war

The cake was HOME BAKED by Dandelion. It's a cheesy blend of cream, philly's cheese, choc and peach with a biscuit bottom-layer... making it "Oh sooo good". Thanks babe. We love you.

Dandelion wonderlicious cheese cake. Just looking at the pix make me want to pick up the phone and 'politely-force' her to bake another one.

It was a southern affair with BBQ chicken, corn, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Add the grits and gravy and you would have yourselves some western country cook-out. Mmm..mmm

And we never forget our 'motivation'.

      A punch with a 'punch'

An unhealthy blend of russian 'motivator', lime, syrup, pineapple, orange and kickapoo. If you can taste the 'motivator', then I would have failed.

      Testimonies please...

      Time to makan

After makan and a screening of Good Luck Chuck (Jessica Alba being such a dork and the screwing montage) we got down to business.

      THE NEW GAME

The box says "Snakes and Ladders" with funny instruction on the back. When opened it revealed its Adult twin Mr. Shooters and Ladders. Hehehe...

      RED CIRCLE = 1 SHOT
RED AND BLACK = Pick a friend to do a shot
      BLACK CIRCLE = DOUBLE SHOTS

      Not a family game

Pre-game pep-talk. Sow the seeds of braveness to all participants

      All ready... set...GO

After an hour later with plenty of...

      ...DOUBLE SHOTS

Everyone was feeling the 'vibe'. Some even felt it more than the rest.

      Jien felt the 'vibe'

      Ollie too

HowZan our infamous 'designated driver' too felt the 'vibe'. It was too strong to resist

      They really felt the 'vibe'

I had too much and was OUT

Ok, the sequence of pictures maybe incorrect. It was more for effects. Everyone gradually hit the hay and saw stars.

After SHOOTERS AND LADDERS, we played DRUNK JENGGA and then 'motivated' some more to a new game Jien showed us. I call it the MEMORY GAME.

and then we all really passed out.

But before we did, there was some really weird stuff going on while I was unconscious. Things that I'm glad to not have witnessed. Things only done after one too many shots of 'motivator'.

      I give you...

      GAYFEST '08

      OMG!!! WTF!!!

Thanks from the bottom of my heart to all that came and made CoolerClub parties the cooler ones I have had. And were just in our third year guys.

      PARTY ON!

Future event ~ Tuborg presents Juice 6th Anniversary "Stars & Stripes Party" @ Poppy, KL 04/07/2008

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

      Wuzzzuppp...

Right after the debacle of getting the Bangkok Job, I drowned my sorrows with 2 crazy weekend parties.

Coolerclubbers partied last 2 Saturdays (31 May and 6 June)at Hennessy Artistry @ Aloha Club KL (FreeeFlowwwMadnesss) and Cooler*JUNE'Baby Birthday Bash @ Fuzz's crib.

Reported the FreeFlowwwMadness and will put up the post bout the birthday soon.

Let's rojak your 4th of July to INDIE ROCK, ELECTRO, HOUSE, HIP HOP music to...

      THE PARTY

Nice e-flyer/poster artwork, have to show it

      Official E-Flyer

Besides being another Juice "Joyfully-Anticipated" Anniversary with prospects of an assured fun time and a hapening social occasion...

      THE REASON TO GO IS

      It's sponsored!

1st 200 (which includes the kiasu party animals a.k.a CoolerClub will be there) will get goodies and 2 Tuborg 'motivation'

Besides the obvious remunerations, we love to check out the pre-party state to meet people and just chill. I believe Dhaima knows some of the barmen or crew at Poppy. That should be interesting...

      THE MASHED LINE UP

A splendid blend of performers from popular club genres like indie rock, electro, house and hip hop. Good job JUICE mag for constantly coming up with fresh party themes.

Hosted by Joey G, the night's performers are:

      Main room:
Twilight Actiongirl - best electro DJs around town
One Buck Short - need no introduction.
DJ Fuzz with MC Philly Roca (K-Town Clan) - Should be GREAT!
Vice Modern Disco - we'll see how, no comment

      VIP room:
Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! featuring Blonde & Raksaksa - indie rockers
      DJ Gabriel

      Plus
Adidas Originals fashion show with styling by ILLKIDD

Themed parties would not be half as interesting if there was no costume or dresscode.

Gotta be STARRY or STRIPY for the night. I bet you that there will be some rocker or electro clash peeps who will wear the 'BEST' combination of both stars and stripes. Just wait and see.

To know a party, you gotta check the sponsors. People who make the party work.

      Big names... should be interesting

So get ur dose of mashed up fun by getting the printed e-invitates at http://www.juiceonline.com/juicestarsandstripes/

After you give them some info bout yourself for their 'undisclosed database-filling purposes' (I don't mind), make sure to read the clause. Or you can read it here.

What is JUICE magazine (by Catcha Corp)?

The big kahuna of entertaintment/nightlife/lifestyle guide magazine and a FREE publication (advertising pays the bills mate, you think its FREE for fun).

JUICE magazine was first launched in Singapore back in 1998 and arrive at our shores sometime around June/July 2003. The mag also spread its wings to Indonesia (2005) and later to Hong Kong (2006).

Dubbed as the leading nightlife and street culture mag in the region (and certainly in Malaysia), you will only see the good stuff of what this side of the world has to offer may it be news, trends, reviews, promos etc.

      Hmmm... Juicy...

Another thing which I enjoy looking at while browsing the mag is the magazine's self-description which can be found at the editorial page (bottom left). It reads...

" JUICE is the free monthly publication of champions, cat lovers and the lonesome... etc etc"

      Cute...

Only thing not so Juicy is the coverage/circulation.

Unless you look for it at the right establishments (in whih some provide you with your own copy of the month's issue and some don't), it's not as FREELY available as it is FREE.

You need to know where to look. Or if you like it sooo much, just subscribe. But I'm sure you will miss some happenings early in the month due to the shipping time.

Other than that and the occasional pictures of CoolerClubbers in the mag from party reviews or picture compilations, it's a Cooler A-OK!

      See you guys there!

      Event first, blog later.

      Chiowz.

Hennessy Artistry presents Point Blanc, Bangkok Invaders and VJ Callen @ Aloha Club, 31/05/08

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

      Wuzzzuppp

      Damn... late again.

Well, if your still visiting, thanks. I personally pride myself on timeliness. Not this time though.

Just venting here... FUEL HIKE SUCKS!

      There goes my aimless-city-wandering days.

Plus, I didn't get the job in Bangkok. That's a downer. I was the less priority back-up applicant who got the placement out of a referral. Kinda suck for those who went trough the proper channels to get this job, if I had gotten it.

      Oh well... keep on searchin'.

My mum was relieved that I didn't get it. She said too fast too soon. Should spend time continuing my Mandarin lessons etc. before I venture in the job market.

      Moms always right.

On a lighter and less sober note, May has been one hell of a PARTY-OVERDOSE for the club.

There were at least 6 sponsored parties, one CoolerClubber's birthday and 2 MASSIVE outdoor events in the month itself.

Lets recap, we started off with some freeflow madness at Maison then 2 Days of Freedom, XLive, Strange Logic (underground rave), a few free concerts and clubbing events and finally...

Another FREEFLOW MADNESS at Aloha Club celebrating Hennessy Artistry!

      Ze Generous Sponsor

      Aloha Club, Jalan P. Ramlee

      CoolerClubbers? Present!

I know this is a bit of a pipe dream, but I envision the club to attend exclusive events as much as humanly possible.

Windows of opportunity are endless... just got to know where and who to look for invites.

VIP Invitation courtesy of Nuffnang via Jien

The WHO this time would the the modest self-proclaimed "not-so-feymes" blogger Jien. He has always been around as a member and blog-advisor to CoolerClub.

Thanx a million gazillion times man.

Check out his witty blog at http://jenkinyat.com/

From left> Josephine, P.Dandelion, Edmund, HowZan, James, Sue, Hikaru and Jien

Fill in forms was not very VIPish, but you gotta give em something in return

Lessen the generous promotional sms/e-mail sending please... but if its an invite send her trough!

It was a very glitzy affair at the entrance. Magazine and Polaroid photoshoot of VIP guest and P.Dandelion got to do this...

      A quick course on DJing

Then right after her was this local celeb's turn

      Ipoh Mali's Point Blanc

Ok, time spent at entrance... 20 minutes.

Jien was somewhat uninterested. And he was right to be so as the main attraction was upstairs, 6 flights of stairs later at the top floor where...

      There was the FREEFLOW MADNESS.

Only one floor and only for VIPs baby!

This was where it all happened

Happened and not happened as the bar a.k.a designated 'motivation' source was packed with guests.

We decided to hang near the bar for maximum reach minimum trouble.

      VIPssssssss

Floor was packed with VIPs. Too packed to be precise.

It appears emptier and spacier on the lower floors

According to Jien, 60 guest came using the Nuffnang invites and only 3 tables were allocated.

      Hmmm... no comment.

      It was all good because...

      We were 'motivated'!

      Salute

      Mmmm good...

I wish I had more hands!

      Mouth wideee open

      Open wider...

      Cheers...

With all the 'motivation' going on, I had to choose between two pleasures.

ONE... the pleasure of watching and listening to the Malaysian HipHop mover and shaker, the one and only Point Blanc

      or

TWO... see how much sweet...sweet Hennessy cocktails a human body can take before he surrenders

I choose the latter. Hehehe *eeevil grin*

But what I lost I made up with enjoying the next performers... give it up to...

      BANGKOK INVADERS!

Mad spinning going on in the club

Two men from Bangkok invaded Malaysia with their innovative mix of hiphop hits, good improvisation and creative human-machine collaboration when they spin the decks and beatboxed at the same time

      Invade us more please!

Let's hit the floor and get low shall we...

      Niceee

      Very niceee

      Nice??? wtf

      ???

The invasion ended round 12ish and the club went back to its resident hiphop DJ

      Resident DJ on the decks

So as more 'motivation' entered my body, I took these in advance before losing my ability to hold the camera or before 'somebody' went overboard and pass-out.

I would also like to shout out to all CoolerClub, Nuffnangers and friends for partying with us at Hennessy Artistry.

      Let the camwhoring begin...

      YEAH!!!

P.Dandelion and Adrian from Singapore working for a MNC from USA. Do call P.Dandelion if you have that job opening you were talking about

I left this part out for last as it was the most memorable part of the event.

So after one to many cocktails, P.Dandelion went into a different state.

You know what state I'm talking about...

It's the one where you are the centre of attraction... The one where you cause everyone to take notice and approach you in any way possible.

The one where the Malaysian friendliness and hospitality was exhibited in the last place you'd expect.

      CoolerClubbers presents, 'OVER-MOTIVATED' P.Dandelion

      She was OUT!

Thanks guys especially Josephine who was there with P.Dandelion trough her self-detoxing in the ladies.

The thing is P.Dandelion can hold her 'motivation'. Her treshold is not bad for a girl.

Maybe it was not her day...

We feel for you babe. Everyone has their moments. I guess it was your time that night.

What a crazy month May '08 has been for CoolerClub. And we're only half way down 2008. What lies in the other half?

What else, plenty of sponsored parties and massive raves ahead!

See you guys where the party at.

      Chiowz...

PS - You guys can also check out Jien's 2 parts post on the event here and here.

Epic Tribe presents STRANGE LOGIC @ Palate Palette, 24/05/08 - Of back alley creatures, russian vodka, the austrian and head-spinning music

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

        Posted by Ollie

It was a Saturday night, what else is there to do but...

enjoy a night out drinking in the back alleys of sin city and then attending a EDM/psytrance UNDERGROUND party :)

The location was Palate Palette. A cool new place which is branding itself as a hangout for those who'd like to combine a taste for the arts and fine dining. On both accounts, it falls slightly short, for the newcomer, in terms of really fine stuff. This lack of finese was put way...way at the back of our head as we came to party.

Up trough the spiral stairs and this is wat you'll see. Deco might be for the night's event only. Maybe not, who knows.

And watch the size of the room. A pretty nice feature, not shown here, was a split-through-the-middle stuffed giraffe, with its legs on one end and the head on the other plasted on the ceiling.

        Weird but understandable...

        Fuzz was there early.

When the rest of us reached, the venue really looked small on first impressions, with a bunch of seasoned clubbers hanging out including a funky looking tall guy in shiny silver wafting around...whom you'll see and hear more of later...

It was early, so we left for some 007 russian 'motivation' outside.

Nothing unusual bout getting 'motivated' at the car park, its just that the carpark (some back alley nearby) was swarming with fearless Tom and Jerrys just hanging out.

Damn, it intrigued and grossed us out.

An hour later, we were back to PSYtrance

Just look at those psyched out faces

        Cool PsyDJs for the night

        Psychedelic overdose

So there we were, in this cosy little place, really feeling some super cool dance music.

Pretty much up there among the best music this writer has heard, in his few clubbing years...

Not being an expert in EDM, here are a few entries for you to study if you want... while the event pretty much mashed psych trance and goa trance, it seems there are quite a few subtle differences..

A reference I liked was one about how Goa (604 trance) was more organic than synthesized psychedelic trance.

        GLOWSTRINGER... present!

This glowstringer was getting a lot of attention...lookin cool and all...but pretty much overloaded the tiny space...

So the crowd ceased to trance and just spectate.

        Front of the class...

Well, we were the only class present.

It saddened us deeply to see 'clubbers' standing around, waiting, hoping to find the groove. Or maybe they're too consious to let themselves go free, get loose.

        People... like Khvn always says

"I get high from the music"

You won't get much help from 'motivation', you must feeeel it inside. Find your inner kwan

On 2nd thought, scratch that. The 'motivation' helped ALOT.

Ollie and Khvn was facing the speaker as if it wasn't LOUD enough.

        So, kwan = 'motivation'?

        Hmmm...

CoolerClubbers doin a little bit of promo work

Living the moment somewhere else... mentally

Didn't we say "Cool PsyDJs" a.k.a foundationKL guys took pix with us

Khvn as usual slipped in a notification of the blog's existance to them

CoolerClubbers who made it trough this psychedelic underground event

The experience was pretty good, for a hangout that prides itself on food and art, doing a hard trance event like this.

As we head back to our lair, in between the philosophical musings on politics, movies, music, football and the observations of vermins and domestic animals nearby, we reflected on the silver figure rolling about the floor of our little fun room.

Strange logic, indeed. Presenting... the Austrian.

Xpax presents XLive Music Festival @ Genting Highlands, 17/05/08

Visit our new blog at www.thecoolerexperience.blogspot.com

          Posted by P.Dandelion

          hulla hulla..

          P.Dandelion again reporting for CoolerClub!

Sorry for the delayed post... I have been busy traipsing around town... anyway...

The day was 17th May 2008, I have been bumming at home on that Saturday..

There were no plans on going to XLive as everyone was practically broke from the Freedom events. Basically it was a dreamy laid back family day until...

          Cooler Sue called...

SCREAMING at the end of the line saying she got 4 tickets to XLive for FREEE!!!

Well.. she's working at ADIDAS.. and her boss got it.. didn't plan to go.. tickets ended up at Sue's hand!

As I was trying as hard as I could to process whatever I've heard.. I thought again.. it was only 4 tix.. only 4 Coolers could go.

Well... all the other Coolers had had their respective individual agenda; so we settled with Cooler(s) Edmund & Oliver for that extra 2 tix.

So 3 of us.. Cooler(s) Sue, Edmund & myself made our way to the top first as Cooler Ollie decided to catch up with us later on.

Since everything was done in a jiffy, we didn't have enough preparation.. I totally forgotten my sweater!!..

Without any accommodation.. and over excited for no reason plus Cooler Edmund was still lethargic from his week-long Bangkok business trip! Cooler Ollie remains undecided whether to make it to XLive.

We arrived around 8.30pm. After the agonies of finding the nearest and comfy parking as we could, we went to check out the venue and Cooler Ollie had to bail out due to personal matters. Thus, it triggered our great mind to sell off the ticket.

Cooler Sue with sponsor's Xpax logo

Surprisingly, the venue wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be. Unlike Freedom which manage to attract 15000 or so crowd.. I supposed.

The door-sale ticketing counter was scarce with only less than 5 people going in to purchase tickets at a time.

Our patience were tested when there's a lot of people selling off their tickets.. therefore it's hard for us to sell off our complimentary ticket. It seems that people are selling off their free tickets as well.

Tired faces from waiting and asking around for buyers

          while waiting for buyers...

Cooler Sue took a pix of these people who are geared up with Adidas outfit from top to bottom. They are more than happy to posed for her..

Normal body check before entering to the venue, with happy faces.

          WARNING:

The next and upcoming pictures that your about to view is from a not-so high quality camera phone that doesn't function well in snapping images at night and also recording video clips...

The XLIVE MAIN STAGE was the first venue we hit..

MALIQ & D'ESSENTIALS the Indonesian Jazzy-Pop group was on stage!!

They were really good..it made us drifted away for awhile by simply enjoying their music.

After a few songs from them, we moved on to the next stage...

          The XL-TRONIC STAGE...

Honestly I wasn't quite sure who was on the deck during that time..the main person that I really wanted to watch is DJ Yoji..a Japanese DJ who was well renowned for his showmanship and his hard dance.

Therefore, we decided to walk away from the XL-TRONIC venue and to come back later.

          The themepark was alive!

Deep down in me, I wanted try all the rides in the park but the other 2 Coolers wasn't down to play with me..

Their main intention was to be there for the music..

But in order to keep me at ease, they finally agreed to hop on to the 'cup-saucer' ride.

          'not-so excited' faces

          then...

          getting the hang of it!

          had enough of it...

We practically skipped the XLR8 STAGE..

It's because we can't seem to find the venue plus no one really took the initiative to really check out that particular stage. Experimental/indie/electroclash music wasn't really our cup of tea at that time.

We then headed to the exit to have our dinner..and while we were walking along the road outside, we saw an almost half-empty venue..

          XLR8 STAGE

No doubt this was the stage that we didn't plan to go..it is quite saddening to see the turn-up over there although I think the performers over there deserve at least a little bit of support.

A CoolerClub outing wouldn't be fun without our ritual drinking session. Like CoolerFuzz says... it is our "motivation".

Ok these are only pictures of us 'camwhoring'..after all the phrase "the more the merrier" was pretty much what we were longing for

We basically spent quite sometime at the carpark and then went straight up to Coffee Bean nearby and sit down there for a chat while feeling abit dizzy from our 'motivation'...

While waiting for the famous MISSY 'MISDEMEANOR' ELLIOT!..

At the back of our heads, we were somehow aware that usually famous acts would be performing at the very end of the event.

We went into the XLIVE MAIN STAGE around 1.20am..it seems the crowd has increased since the first time we went in..

We can feel the heat, anxieties and agonies in every single person who were waiting for that famous superstar to appear!..

There were this two girls who looks like a journalist (holding a pen & notebook with dslr camera hanging around their necks)..said among themselves..that Missy E was supposed to be out around 11pm. I don't know how true was that.

We waited for another 15 minutes and

          TADAAA......

          MISSY E's dancers was out!!!

Everyone got excited, people were screaming and chanting her name on the top of their lungs!!!

She basically came out from a podium that risen up in the middle of the stage..

          There she was..entertaining the crowd..

Her show'woman'ship was really great as she tries really hard to stay connected with her crowd from an unfamiliar country.

The familiar hit tunes like 'get ur freak on', 'gossip folks', 'lose control', 'pass that dutch', 'ching-a-ling where she had change the chorus to 'ringgit-to-da-ching' received a round of applause!!

Missy: "Is Malaysia is the hottest country in the world?
          "The crowd: "HELL YEAHHH.."

One of her daring act was to go down from the stage to interact with her crowd who were seated at the back and she came back to the front by sitting on her bodyguard's shoulder while rapping on her hit "work it".

          She was 2 feet away!

          3 Of us was among the lucky bunch among the crowd who get very close to her (around 2feet away to be exact) while she was rapping her "work it" hit...so close that we almost touch her... {*teary eyed*}

It was a strong 30min performance by herself and not forgetting her powerful troop of dancers!..it was such a short time but it was worth to see such a dynamic performer performed at their best..(maybe).

Her performance ended with her crediting her dancers then she disappeared in the middle of the stage using her movable podium that went down below the stage.

We all assumed she's taking her private jet back home!!

Cooler Sue said Missy E looks hotter in her video clips..it depends on the individual I suppose..as my main concern was on how this well-known superstar perform.

The next big thing is of course DJ YOJI BIOMEHANIKA!!

We rushed ourselves to the XL-TRONIC STAGE and there he was doing what he does best!

Honestly EDM is my cup of tea compared to hip-hop tunes, this is because I believe EDM tunes makes us become more in touch with our own imagination!! (if you are a hip-hop lover, don't trust me on this).

Everyone was getting crazy on the dance floor! and people got crazier when he played his new tune 'Techy Techy' while throwing out his cd's..and the other tunes that he played which I don't really care to recall as I was jumping up and down too!!

He is so energetic just like the tunes that he played.

This is what we called performer with eccentricity enjoying his boom to the max

I just love to see how he make the crowd moved and cheered by his unique performing style.

          Another spunky performance from Yoji

It was already 330am but the people just wouldn't budge away from the XL-TRONIC stage, some were screaming for an encore from DJ YOJI..so the crowd's wishes was fullfilled and he continued until 415am.!!

Hard dance for several hours sure left us in a very confused state..but satisfying at the same time..

Overall, the X-pax event was a good one because it targeted different types 0f audience who likes different type of musical genre, maybe the last minute promotion didn't help much to gain awareness from their target public.

After enjoying ourselves with good music, it was time for us to call it a night and take a nap in Cooler Edmund's cosy car..
